I saw a slightly amusing comment on the BBC sport page. It was along the lines of Bolton's problem under Coyle was that they couldn't defend, so they appoint the manager of the team that has conceded the most goals at home in the league.

It also appears that Burnley are drawing up their shortlist after having interviewed 15 candidates.

And Blackburn are getting turned down by all and sundry

Never going to end well for Bolton this.

Palace always get off to a good start but there's no way they'll be up there come May (is there?)

Bolton would have been better off sticking with Coyle who has a way better track record. I don't know what's wrong with football chairman lately, why do they keep sacking decent managers based on a few early results just to replace them with someone average to crap.

I can't believe he's taken the job, he was far better off at Palace.

They're a bigger club though and it's always the way with managers. I imagine he'll be getting more money and he's definitely got a better chance of getting promotion with Bolton.

Personally I'd rather live in the Bolton/Horwich area than South London anyway.

I think people are looking at this wrong - he's going to be on more money and in a worst case scenario he'll get sacked in a year with a massive pay-off and he can blame the £100m debt as a millstone that stopped him buying players. He can retire with his reputation in tact - easy.

I fully expect him to fail, total flash in the pan 18 month wonder at Palace. They shouldve gone for Holloway.

Doubled his money and he'd been told he had to sell their best players in January apparently, that must have made the decision a little easier.

Agree with all of this. Even after it ends badly for him at Bolton - as it may well do - he would still be in the frame for future posts at places like Millwall, Watford, Brentford etc as and when they should arise

Strange that he's gone with Palace going so well and he having spent so long down there. Interesting to see how both Palace and Bolton's seasons go from here.

I am surprised Bolton have gone for him, largely unproved and bit like Owen Coyle. I think they should have gone for a more experienced manager. I guess for him it is a no brainer, as we will get a big fat salary, and even if it doesn't work out, he will have plenty in the bank to dull the pain.

Totaly agree. They shouldve gone for a either Holloway or an 'old head' as it were - Id have honestly said Bruce wouldve been perfect for them. Managing a club £100m in debt with some big but underperforming egos is a hell of a task and I would be stunned if Freedman got them promoted either this or next season.

Still, all good for us isnt it?

Bit harsh, look at where Palace were before he took over. They are totally skint so I think he's shown that he is anything but crap.

That said, still agree it's a strange appointment both for Bolton and for Freedman.

And as has been mentioned, I doubt Palace will keep up their early season form, probably one final showing agaisnt us tomorrow and things could well be on the decline.
