Thing is, passing the ball properly (and yes that does mean more slowly) is the best way to play. That's why Spain and Italy are ahead of us, they don't have this impatient need to see the ball in the box every time they have the ball and it results in much better attacks when they do, it also helps the defence a lot because they have the ball most of the time. We're too impatient in this country, demanding the ball forward all the time and bemoaning the more continental players like Carrick (or at our level, Cairney) who play the ball sideways more often. Sadly, the people who display this impatience are the same ones who go on about how far behind the other top countries we are, but don't want to seem to want anything done about it.

I agree to a point, but the reason the EPL is probably the most watched football over over the world, is that we don't spend most of the game passing the ball sideways.

Yeah that might be a big part of it, but I really don't think it has to be boring. For example, look how many English teams struggle massively to score goals, particularly against a defensive team. We have been one of the best examples in recent years but there are other examples, whenever I see Liverpool I always think they have the same issue as us even though they have world class players. I really think it's a big thing that English teams including the national team just don't know how to work their way round a team, yeah we're pretty good on the counter and good at getting stuck in but when a team sits back we can't score, and even though we won 5-0, that was evident at times against San Marino, we weren't doing anything obviously wrong but just couldn't create the openings to get in behind them. Obviously we did fine in the end and got plenty of goals so don't think I'm complaining about that game or anything I'm just using it as an example.

I'm convinced that if we could play the way the rest of the world do, we'd be able to score more goals, even against teams that 'park the bus' and if you look at some foreign teams, it doesn't have to be boring at all.

I actually thought that against San Marino we did pass the ball, a bit like Barca across the pitch trying to engineer openings, who against better defenses, do struggle to score, unless Messi is playing. In that system you do need a play like Messi who can go past players in a confined space, and take defenders out of the game. I think losing Walcott, and also Walker played like a pratt, didn't help our cause.

A waterlogged pitch in a stadium with a roof because they chose not to close it. Words fail.

Could this be a sneaky Polish tactic? I bet if the game is on they'll be wearing flippers and wetsuits.

Did the Serb players say something to Rose? Or was it just their fans?

I know Rose's reaction wasn't the cleverest, but it was quite funny to mimick the monkey actions and stick two fingers up at the Serbs.

Adrian Chiles, Lee Dixon, Gareth Southgate all need a slap. You can tell Roy Keane is dying inside listening to all their ****e.
