Howard Webb's the ref. Does it matter what actually happens on the pitch? He'll make it up anyway. Chris Foy had a decent game in front of 2,678 fans yesterday as Accrington Stanley lost 3-2 at home to Rochdale, in unrelated news...
After an international break about three seasons ago we played Chelsea and lost 3-0 at their place,I hope it's not an omen. Now,we're 5th and unbeaten in nine and at home where we haven't been as effective as away. Chelsea are top but admittedly with a lot of luck to be there. Now again I think old District might be right. If we win this game then we might will have a bloody good longer run than we've had already. It's a good judge this match because even though they're top through luck it does help play along to positive results. If we can break their winning run then it bodes well for us. We need to do better than today though. If we lose it then I'm a bit nervy,a draw won't be a disaster. AVB playing his old club,I'm drooling at what he'll say if we win it. COME ON YOU SPURS. Get the form going and take the chances. Chelsea gave plenty against Norwich.
We've been fine at home and very effective since AVB got his team together, two wins and a draw out of three, and it should have been 3 out of 3 but for terrible reffing. Bring on Chelsea, should be a cracker.
We're only one point short of our best ever start to a Prem season, and doing better than last season. http://www.myfootballfacts.com/TottenhamHotspurPremierLeaguePointsWon.html IF we beat Chelsea it'll be our best ever Prem total after 8 games.
It's too much of an angle to tell conclusively but it doesn't look like the whole ball would've been over the line. Anyway right decision not to guess at it, like certain officials have before. Is it just me or are these kind of marginal goal line decisions becoming more common?
Both the Goons and Chavs played some really good football yesterday and appear to have significantly strengthened their squads from last season. Cazorla and Hazard have real quality and with Torres scoring regularly and Steve Bould making a difference in how the Goons (generally) defend, I cannot see either of them outside of the top 4. Having said that, neither are perfect by any means and the positive way we are starting to shape up means it could come down to the outcome of the derbies that will determine whether we manage to get a CL berth this year.
Such a lot of good football this weekend. My vote for best match was Barcelona 2 (Messi) v Real Madrid 2 (Ronaldo). Talk about 100 miles an hour football! Ronaldo may have dislocated his left shoulder trying a flash scissor kick but "the Great One" refused to take him off. No Modric either. He was left on the bench. Have Real messed up,I wonder, buying Modric?
A lot of good posts and points brought up today but that's it until the 20th. I'm not that interested in internationals so roll on Spurs v Chelsea. See you in a couple of weeks. Cheers lads.
Even the aerial view was difficult to say for sure whether it was over or just overlapping the line. Webb managed to miss Tiote's stamp, Evra's shirt tug and RVP's elbow. It's a wonder he's still considered a top ref.
It's early days yet. Judge 10 games in. If Chelsea beat Spurs and United then even I'd agree its unlikely we'll finish outside the top 4. In the past 2 seasons lack of options/squad depth led to our mid season demise but we don't have that his year so I can't see a collapse of 10/11 scale proportions. I'm quite confident Arsenal will get top 4. the signings of last year (namely Mertesacker, Jenkinson and Koscielny) are coming good and gelling. Despite what they may believe Wilshere won't be as good when he comes back. If he ever does get back to near to what he was it will take him 6-12 months minimum. I'm still not convinced by United. And City for me are head and shoulders above anyone else at the moment. Chelsea may have a comparable midfield and better defence but City's striking options are infinitely better than ours. Right now were a new team fighting for belief. If we can beat Spurs but more importantly beat United no matter what anyone says will be genuine contenders. I've not seen much of Spurs so can't really comment, the United game was probably the first full Spurs game I've watched so can't comment on them much but in Dembele they appear to have acquired one of the best box to box midfielders
Webb is still the best ref we have. He's infinitely better than Dowd, Clattenburg, Foy, Mason, Taylor and that's just to name a few
No offence but I think it's quite blinkered. Both Chelsea and Arsenal are good sides and have played the best football in the opening few games. Both sides will be right up there for sure IMO
Webb's ****. He allows himself to be influenced massively by certain sides, which he's done a great job of illustrating today by pulling a Clattenburg. Apparently it's not violent conduct to elbow people in the head, just as long as you wear a tablecloth when you're doing it. No visit to Accrington for you, Mr Webb.
If ever there was a comment to underline how bad referees are in the Premier League, it's this one. Webb is our top referee? That's like saying cholera is the top way to die after drinking unclean water.
