Hillsborough - World's worst concourse?

As far as I can remember, I've only been in the lower tier before, what the hell was that concourse all about?

Is it used during the week to keep cattle in? Or does it double up as a zoo?

People serving food and drink out of cages was really bizarre. Food in some cages, beer in others, but right at the far end so you had to battle past all the food cages.

That has to be the grimmest, most depressing, badly designed concourse in the country.
 
Even some modern stadiums get it wrong, the Ricoh Arena is also completely ****. Do stadia designers not consider the flow of people when building these things?

at least at Derby, you can go outside

i ve never had a problem at Cov. maybe because the whole stadium is far too big for the crowds
 
I heard someone say that they closed them all at half time is that true? Apparently it was kicking off. I live in Sheffield and the police helicopters were hanging about around the stadium for a good hour after the match and their seemed to be a lot of police running around the place did anyone see any trouble?

i was mildly amused when quite authoritatively and deep almost offensive voices we were 'instructed' left out of the leppings lane terracing and straight on at the next traffic lights with the strong words: "All Hull fans this way...". However, as soon as I suggested that I was parked at Owlerton, the copper caved in immediately and said in an almost effeminate tone: "OK. Except you 3"

There didn't seem to be any trouble around me but as you say the police were acting like they were trying to orchestrate an anti terrorism exercise.
 
The policing was poor at the end of the game. Both home and away fans were exiting together with no direction from the police. One Wednesday fan (who looked like a typical hooligan) walked up to us, saw our City badges and with gritted teeth pointed and told us we were "effing scum". Gave us a bit of a chuckle at least!
 
My first time at hillsborough yesterday and I've got to say I didn't enjoy it one bit.

Concourse was a total joke
Parking was crap and a nightmare getting away after the game
The locals are a scary bunch which a find hard to understand (duck and chuck)

At least we won!
 
Brother saw some scuffling with Coppers on the concourse at HT - helmets flying everywhere apparently.. there looked to be some real lads there today.. not sure what it was all about

Agree OLM the concourse is grim.. it has had a lick of paint to the cages though since last time I went and now sells bottled beer which they didn't used to before.

Had a nice pint in pub near the ground and the locals seemed fairly friendly .. all in all a good day.

Yeah there was loads of trouble. Yet another cock up from s yorks police (really you think they would have learnt their lesson). I think some city fans had a stand off with some coppers and then I think there was an pre organised punch up between hooligan elements of both sides. I have to admit I prefer sheff utd fans to wednesday fans. Wednesday seem to attract the hooligan element in the city.

I live near Bram lane, quite often walk past it if going to London road for dinner. Never had any problems. However Hillsborough is a different story everytime I go near it on a match day there is something kicking off/people looking for a fight. Having spoken to some folk who go regularly and have been to both grounds, the consensus is that Sheff Utd is the more family friendly club. even if they did employ a rapist last season.

Tend to agree, wouldn't have had a problem walking to Bramall lane in my Hull shirt on my own. Didn't fancy it yesterday and glad I didn't as well.
 
Old bill stopped me for looking dodgy. Wouldn't surprise me if there was a punch up, there was what looked like a big group of young bell ends who flocked to the lower left corner at kick off, didn't really do nowt but shout abuse at Wednesday fans. Looked a right bunch of dimwit ****s, embarrassing really. Bet it was that lot that kicked off at the coppers and all...

Had a good chat walking to the ground with a Wednesday fan he was alright, but after the game they all seemed a right bunch of sore losers, utter ****s. Glad I went to say I've been but that will be my first and only time at hills borough. Total **** hole in every respect, pillars were a piss take and all.
 
The whole ground needs an overhaul and would have got one had we won that World Cup bid.

The Leppings Lane end and the 'concourse' in particular reminds me of Bunkers at BP except we had four or five exits onto a much bigger lower tier (unlike just the one at Hillsborough that was part of of the problem in the tragedy)

The pillars were erected to hold up a bigger roof to keep the rain off the lower tier later seated - originally like Bunkers it was a cantilevered roof.
