I'm not too fussed that Rickie hasn't been picked. I think Hodgson wants to see more of Rickie in the PL before he calls him up, which is understandable. It's the fact that he's picked Carroll and Welbeck that really annoys me. There are far better options than those 2, Crouch being the obvious one.

100% - the blindness some England managers show to certain players is a piss-take

It can only help us more if Rickie and Adam don't get called up! They must feel they are close to a call up and great motivation to put in more great performances for us! plus for the moment no chance of them getting injuried & they have a nice rest of the internation fixtures :D

Can understand the point about Carroll to a certain degree, mainly because he has been injured. If England want to use a proper targetman then I do think he is the best option. His overall game isn't as good as Lambert or Crouch's but he is better than both as an old fashioned target man, and when he is given the right service he is unplayable at times. The fact that a) it is very rare to see the bigger sides use this kind of striker anymore and b) Liverpool paid £35 mil for him is the reason he gets so much stick, both of which aren't really his fault. If of course he has been called up not to play the kind of role he is suited to and to play a similar role to the one he played at Liverpool then it is a poor decision by Roy.

The point about Welbeck is laughable really, by far Englands best young striker (though there isn't too much competition) and could be argued that he is England's best out and out striker.

Anyway can't say I'm too fussed about neither Rickie or Adam getting into the squad, I really couldn't care monkies about how England do, and am glad they will be getting a break.

This England squad has really touched a nerve of mine! It really is disgusting! Walcott and Milner shouldn't be anywhere near the team at the moment and Carroll's not fit! Lambert, Lallana, and Sterling should have been called up instead IMO - they're on fire!! Also, what's the point of calling up 3 left backs?! Ridiculous!

Welbeck is a good prospect but has done nothing his season.Where is the incentive to play well if players in form don;t get picked?

Marked in red are those that I feel should not be in this squad, I am a Rooney fan but I feel he is not match fit. I feel that an England player should be a automatic starter for his club, if he can not get into his clubs 1st team then look at smaller clubs.I used to like Tom Cleverly, but after the way Spiderman made him and Carrick his bitches for 60 minutes I believe he has no England future
Goalkeepers: Fraser Forster (Celtic), Joe Hart (Manchester City), John Ruddy (Norwich)

Defenders: Leighton Baines (Everton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jagielka (Everton), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Joleon Lescott (Manchester City), Ryan Shawcross (Stoke), Kyle Walker (Tottenham)

Midfielders: Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Tom Cleverley (Manchester United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Adam Johnson (Sunderland), Aaron Lennon (Tottenham), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Manchester City), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Theo Walcott (Arsenal)

Forwards: Andy Carroll (West Ham), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Danny Welbeck (Manchester United)

Agree with that apart from Rooney. I'm just annoyed there is no real attempt to try and bring on any more of the youngsters. I've never been convinced by Cleverly either.

Out of interest, who would you replace those with?

Agree with those apart from Rooney, Adam Johnson, Lampard, Carrick, Cleverley and Gibbs. I've always rated Johnson, he was treated unfairly at City. Lampard is still a good player, Carrick is a very good player, Cleverley has a very good future ahead of him, Gibbs is first choice LB at Arsenal and has done a good job, and why on earth would you leave Rooney out!!!

We don't need 3 left backs, swap Welbeck and Carroll who can't even be fully fit with Crouch and Lambert. To be fair, it's reasonable to leave Lallana out with that level of competition, I would personally swap him with Lennon but of course I'm going to be bias! Swap Gibbs with someone like Caulker.

With regards to Gibbs, he is a good player but here he is 3rd choice left back- do we need 3 left backs ?Johnson has talent but needs a full season playing, Lampard has never played well with Gerrard and he is the captain so will play,Milner is just a donkey and Carrick and Cleverly are premiership players at best. Welbeck works hard but is not a prolific goal scorer. Depends on the formation that the manager chooses which I hope is 433 as I belive that is the only formation that Lampard and Gerrard can play together. I would rate Kevin Nolan above Milner. So in answer to your question I would play Hart, Johnson, Cahill, Lescott, Cole. Midfield 3 of Gerrard, Leon Osman (wilshire if ever fit) and Rooney, front 3 of Lennon, Defoe and Oxo. 433

Is Leon Osman registered English? He's been around for a while now and I find it hard to believe that he's just been passed over all this time.

Grant Holt is pissed off at selection policy

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19830762

On Rickie - Holt believes his former Rochdale team-mate Rickie Lambert, who has scored four Premier League goals for Southampton this season, should have been considered.

"He's scoring the goals. He's done well. But I think any neutral looking at that list could have written it down beforehand and not been far off," said Holt.

"Unless Rickie Lambert scores 25 goals or bags 10 in the next two months I don't think he'll get close."

For once I agree with Holt.
