great win over the weekend, must say i half thought about turning the game off after the wigan goal...thank god I didn't!
And now I can't help but join in on the 'who should we sign this summer' banter, not that our 'expert' opinions make a difference, however I always enjoy speculating for lack of anything else to do.

I think everyone would agree that we need two strikers, natural fullbacks and atleast some of our on-loan players to stay. But for this article I'd like to just talk about the two strikers.

I personally would like a young unproven player with bags of potential, and a very experienced striker who may be a bit passed it but still has a few years left in the tank. An example for the young player for me would be VICTOR MOSES. With wigan likely to go down, and him not playing a great part in their season i think he could come for cheap. I've seen him play a few blinders for england and crystal palace respectively, and he has A LOT to give. He just needs the right manager, and mentor. I think the bubbliness of Gyan, and the know-how of the right experienced striker could really help blossom our young strikers and even midfielders.
I work in the football industry and I can tell you first hand that strikers values goes down as quickly as it goes up. You can get an experienced striker (one even with champions league experience) for close to nothing, followed with a contract that's more incentive based ie. michael owen's contract with man utd. I don't know if the likes of Van Nistelrooy would come to sunderland, but there are plenty out there. To give you a little insight, Frederico Chaves Guedes more commonly known as FRED formerly of Lyon was offered to my company to sign with virtually any team outside of Brazil...even asian teams seemed like a ok for him. He is only 27 and the team simply requested that his contract be completely bought out, and also 250,000 euros as a transfer fee/compensation fee. We are talking about a player who has played for BRAZIL and the CHAMPIONS LEAGUE who's only 27 and would be available for 1 million quid.
Now i'm not saying he's the signing for us, although i would love to see him at sunderland, (strong, powerful, good feet) my point is that there are tons out there. We don't have to spend tens of millions, we just need to allocate the money which we luckily have in places where they belong.

I can easily see us spending 20-30 million this summer, but also suspect a few may be leaving...i just hope we keep building. But for this season I want to see the youngsters given a chance, also riveros and the Argentinian pretty boy.

    thoughts??

Klose for the experienced one, Bayern have Gomez on fire Olic and young Muller coming through, I think we could have a chance.

Has anyone though about Carlos Cuellar from Villa? I don't know much about him, but he's a centre-back, and have signed him already on FIFA :)

Think we'd all be doing the samba if we managed to sign Samba <party> :emoticon-0102-bigsm

What about Mladen Petric who plays in Germany for Hamburg. Big lad (over 6') with a great scoring record of 11 goals in 22 games, with 7 assists this season. He's only got a year left on his contract, so may be available at the right price.

Good player Petric, always has been.

And i think Samba is unanimous, short of a miraculous Cahill capture, he's the PERFECT signing for us.

How old is Samba? But I don't really care lol an absolute beast and as said above him and Bramble together would be a mean partnership.

New LB - Samba - Bramble - Sir Bardsley

    or even...

    Bardsley - Samba - Bramble - Hutton/Onuoha

Posted this on the other thread. Any of them will do me. Think Samba will go to Aresnal to be honest.

Well we aint going to get anyone as good as Bent from the Premier leauge. Based on that I think Bruce will be looking foreign again.
Would love to see Remy or Gignac, but they only signed for Marseille last summer so can't see it.
Moussa sow is a good shout, Lyon are also overloaded with strikers, Any one of Lopez, Briand or Gomis would do me.
The German Leauge is full of big strikers. Arnautovic, Klose, Olic, Keisling, Petric, Lakic, Obasi, Ibisecvic, Mandzukic, Hunterlaar, Barrios and didn't big chris' source mention Podolski. Pretty much every German team has a big lad up top and i have probably missed a few ic's out.

How about Kevin Davies from Bolton. Loads of EPL experience, can cause mayhem in the box and Gyan can capitalise on that. He defends very well and never gives up or goes missing in a game. Bolton could be tempted as they are not a wealthy club.

Good player but would cost a bit for a 34 year old as he has become a Bolton legend lol

Remy's not impossible, he's a cracking little player, very mobile, a bit like Gyan as it goes.

Out of the german based lads, Podolski would be incredible, Olic, Barrios and Ibicevic would be very good.

Arnautovic is ****ing superb, but he's a right lazy twat, he could be so good.

Another playing in Germany is Pogbregnyak at Stuttgart, who is a very decent player with a rocket left foot, he might be achievable.

All of these fit the bill, although Podolski doesn't fit the target man thing, he's left sided, and is a great creator.

I understand what you say about Arnautovic. He is only 21/22 tho, if you can get him going he could be a superstar, he is also quite fast for a big lad and has excellent feet. Saying that he is out wide most of the time, so not really what we need.
Yeah forgot about Progbenyak, also forgot about Derdiyok, looked decent at the world cup and is also a good age.
