It's the LB position that worries me, I really don't want JV playing in this game, but it's hard to see any other option, if the provional squad is correct. Though once again we haven't had any team news so the provisional squad may be simply wrong. I'd rather Mason start than Carroll in this game.
According to the Daily Mail, either Gomes or Cudicini will start tonight- i hope it's Carlo if true. Presumably Lloris is being saved for the EL - what a mess
If Andros is going to be given a chance, I would prefer it to be in his more natural position. But as we appear to be down to 'the bare bones' at LB, then certainly Townsend can fill in there. But long term he is no LB.
I want to see Townsend given a real opportunity to prove himself on the left wing, that would mean either playing Smith or Walker at left back or playing Vertonghen there for at least 45 minutes and then pushing Townsend back there after he's had a proper chance further up the pitch.
Schteffen speaking about the Carlisle game: http://www.tottenhamhotspur.com/spurs/News/attitude-key-at-carlisle-steffen-26092012.page We've already had one Spurs player score against them when Luongo scored in the previous round but this will be a good test for some of our fringe players, it's always tough away at a lower league ground.
I sure hope if Townsend starts at LB that Falque doesn't play in front of him, that would be asking for major trouble. Definite dilemma for AVB tonight. Maybe Smith at LB, with Townsend in front of him and Walker at RB? or play siggy on the left in front of townsend? IF JJ is going out on loan, it may be he won't play tonight. Will the likes of Parret get a chance maybe, I certainly hope Mason plays. As with the QPR game no official team news, so it's a real guessing game. I wonder if the squad will stay in the NW after the game? it seems ridiculous to me if they come all the way home to go all the way back up there again on Friday.
So the Mail got it spot on re No Lloris- bit of a scoop for them Carlisle: Gillespie, Simek, Chantler, Livesey, Murphy, Thirlwell, Berrett, Robson, McGovern, Higginbotham, Cadamarteri. Subs: Collin, Noble, Madden, Edwards, Potts, Beck, Symington. Spurs: Cudicini, Smith, Caulker, Dawson, Vertonghen Townsend, Sigurdsson, Huddlestone, Mason, Falque, Dempsey. Subs: Gomes, Lennon, Defoe, Walker, Sandro, Obika and Carroll. I hope Lloris starts at OT I think Falque is a mistaken selection, but we'll see, I'm pleased that Mason rather than Carroll is in. Overall, I think we'll win.
I would have liked to have seen the lineup without Verts Sig and Dempsey. This is a typical game where players will pick up injuries. the weather is minging, they've played a lot recently, and the youngsters should have the quality to beat Carlisle. If not, does it matter? As we're clearly trying in the EL this season, IMO any first team player should be not be anywhere near this competition. other wise we'll face burnout again, just like last season.
I know it's a big ask, but is anyone showing the game? I've found the Man U, Gooner and Pool games, but not ours
I have no idea how we're setting up for this one. Is Dempsey playing as a lone striker or something? Odd.
yes, Dempsey is the lone striker, with siggy playing the old vdv position, according to 5 live,it's the commentry match tonight
Cudicini; Smith, Dawson, Caulker, Vertonghen; Huddlesone, Sigurdsson; Townsend, Mason, Falque; Dempsey SUBS: Gomes, Lennon, Defoe, Walker, Sandro, Obika, Carroll I'm trying to guess who goes where and does what in midfield on this one...
So Mason's playing in the middle? Wouldn't we be better off with Carroll in there, if that's the case?
