The Olympics have been great for Britain, we put on a show for the world and the world was most impressed.

I'm currently in the Far East where they're raving about how good the games were, even in Beijing, they think the British quirkiness set it apart from all other games.

Those that don't appreciate how beneficial these games have been to the nation, were probably never in a position to take advantage of the benefits anyway(though they're probably taking advantage of other benefits the nation is providing).

I made the above up, just to re-enforce Dean24s view of the world. The truth is that my mate riases funds for Junior Diabeties Research. He has had diabetes since birth, but it has not stopped him. He can no longer hold down a full time job because of his disabilities, but he worked on building sites for most of his working life as a brickie. Unlike me, if he has an accident, his body does not repair itself in the same way and his legs, arms and eyes are all affected. Simple things like a cut, takes or ever to heal. His average of late is 4 operations a year. He volunteers at a charity to teach ex offender teenagers basic bricklaying. Every year he takes on a fund raising challenge, last year he climbed to the top of a tall ships mast. Others did it in 30mins. He took 2 hours to get to the top and 3 hours to get down.
He has been offered huge sums of money for his torch. But he has kept it. The fact is that he still does not see why he was selected. But if one child who gets diagnosed with diabetes feel a bit better about life going forward because of his example, it will have real value, not measurable in pounds.

So Dean24, thanks for giving me the chance to tell his little story.

I didn't say that to make myself look "good and popular". I said it because I meant it and I don't give a **** if you think it's pathetic. :emoticon-0105-wink:

Does not make you right. Unlike the stories of the paralympians, people whos lives have been affected for the better, people who didnt have hope now do, the disenfranchised feel part of sociey but ooo no because you have a narrow minded view and use foul language to enforce it must mean you are right.
