Villas-Boas wouldn't be doing Lloris any favours by throwing him in at the deep end, Ghoddle.
He's unfamiliar with the English game and any mistakes he'd make would be instantly jumped on by the press, creating a lot of pressure for him.
The manager's doing the right thing by giving him time to adjust, bed in and observe the style, whilst using Friedel's form as a reason, thereby deflecting all criticism or questions from the player.

Playing games in cups, watching how the Premier League works and taking the number 1 spot over the course of the season seems like by far the most sensible way of doing things, to me.
We all saw what happened to Gomes when he slipped up and I'd prefer not to see a repeat of that.
Lloris might be an instant hit, but why risk it?

I'm saying that because I'm reacting to al the anti-Lloris stuff on here, and the implication we're doing him a favour.

He joined because he wanted to, but I assume he thought we would welcome him with open arms as I have, and that he would be number one.

 

i haven't seen any anti-Lloris stuff. All i've seen is IFs about whether Lloris is unhappy or not. IF he is then he needs to have a long hard look at himself.
Brad earned us a point in the last game. That is the opposite of costing us points.

I don't think I misunderstand I don't think the incumbent has to be given the benefit. Adebayor is better than Defoe as a lone striker so he should be straight in, fitness provided, and there's no doubting Lloris' fitness. Dembele is better than Siggy so he should be straight in. Dempsey is better than Lennon so he should be straight in, fitness provided again, and so forth.

 

I don't mind him not starting at Reading, after that I would expect him to be number 1. Though I would rather him be in goal for that game, I can see it might be too early. For him to be be expected to wait months seems wrong to me however.

what would you think if Lloris came straight in, dropped 5 crosses, got bullied by the centre forward and conceded 3 soft goals in his opening match? All while being unable to communicate with his back 4 making them look a shambles. The team hasn't won a game yet, that would hardly help would it?

There is very little debating going on. Its basically you saying "Lloris is france captain. He must be no1. Poor Lloris" without actually knowing any of the circumstances and it appears like not even taking other peoples views into consideration.
If thats debating then yes, i think we should leave it.

 

Lloris' English actually seems to be pretty good, relatively speaking, Spurm.
A number of our defenders speak French too, which will certainly help him to adjust.

I don't recall Gomes being dropped like a stone for Brad. We signed Brad in Jun 2011, we then went on tour to the US. Carlo was in for the first game, Gomes still recovering from slight injury...well there's a rare occurence! Brad was put in for the second game, Gomes was given a half in one of the other games later on out there. Therefore Brad did well enough of the 3 keepers pre-season that year to be given the first game. Slightly different scenario than unceremoniously dropped.

 

It's not anti-Lloris, we all want him to get his chances and do well. No one's implied we were doing him a favour, just that he's not here as a favour to us so he should compete for his place like every other player.

He will be number 1 just maybe not from the very first game. We have 4 games in the next 10 days, if he doesn't get a start in at least one of them then that's the time to start getting critical.


Anyway this whole Lloris thing is starting to get tedious now, where's Boss with the match thread...

 

Well I think there has been that implication and some very anti-Lloris stuff on here.

If the only start he gets is at Carlisle, I will be very critical. I expect him to be our Prem no. 1 either against Reading or the next prem game, I think it's QPR.

 

I'd expect him to start against Lazio and Carlisle, then see how we go from there.

 

nobody is anti Lioris...nobody has said that at all.

From what I've read, the "issue" was created by the spear carrier - Deschamps, not by Lloris. Am not aware of any quotes from him?

That's not my opinion, I think some people are anti-Lloris, and yes ATM I'm anti-AVB, he's going to have to up his game considerably before I lose my distrust of him.

 

I think Brad is a great guy from what I know of him, a brilliant ambassador for the club and football in general. I don't think he's as good a goalkeeper as Lloris, hence I want Lloris to replace him.
