I guess if it looked like there were no opportunities for good permanent transfers it would be reasonable to find a temporary squad player, to add some cover and be used situationally. Same was said of Benayoun last season, but he served us well eventually, and retrospectively the pros of getting him on a loan outweighed the cons.
Yes, but Benayoun still had plenty left in his tank, and showed that. Essien is past it, not even Wenger could bring him back to his best. As SJW said, there was a reason he didn't feature in the CL final.
I'm just talking in general why a sub-optimal loan would be preferred over a sub-optimal permanent signing, in case talks over sought after players fell through. (though what you said was said about Benayoun as well)
We possibly aren't signing anyone, apparently (twitter, i know) wenger has put any speculation to bed. Sounds like he's focussing on january instead.
Somewhere on the South Coast there's a lonely old man driving around leaning out of his car window looking in vain for a tv camera. Poor Harry
Seeing as I'm down his neck of the woods I might go round with my camcorder tomorrow filming. He might see it and beckon me over. "Well he's a 'triffic player and I'd love us to sign 'im up".
Old twitchy is parked somewhere, with his finger resting on the electronic window button of his Range Rover, you just know it
