I think my main concern is that if we were to be relegated there are no gaurantees that we would come straight back up or even back up in the near future. I know the PL is a hard league to stay in especially for a club like ours but I dont see much difference in trying to stay in the PL and getting promoted to the PL - both are hard.

I would have just liked to have seen some imagination with players being brought in particularily from abroad following our good finish last year which i think would make us an attractive club for foreign players to join. We will always have issues with fees and wages but we will not be able to attract the same calibre of players in the championship as what we could have done this summer if we had wanted too.

I hope we have enough to stay up and I like some of the transfers this summer particularily the Bassong deal but if we bring in CMS I would rather have kept vaughan.

I wouldn't be gutted if we landed CMS. I reckon he would compliment Holt pretty well and he is a decent finisher.

he's a bit like holty really. an action-packed centre forward. lacks a bit of the holt guile but he's quite quick and he'll certainly do plenty of closing down. i think anything sub £2m would be fine but i'd like to see a loan addition with a bit more quality if possible <ok>

With regards to the comments relating to "signings to keep us up, but who would also stay if we went down", this is without a doubt an estute way to do business. We could spend a fortune and still go down, then we would be in a real muddle.

As happened recently with Tal Ben Haim at Portsmouth - although, to be fair, he should NOT have been on £36k a week in the Championship - their board should have factored this in to his contract. (But that's another issue.)

i've already posted this elsewhere but here it comes again!

anyone expecting some foreign flair will be disappointed as we simply don't have the scouting network in place as it stands to locate and research these little gems. it will happen as plans are in motion to overhaul the scouting network at the club but its more a case of 'who do our scouts know about at the moment' rather than 'lets go and find some foreign class'. it costs a substantial amount of money to do what some think we already do!! <ok>

I had hopes of signing someone from overseas as the 'foil' for GH - though IMO, thought SJ played well against QPR and if CMS can find his 'shooting boots', could be a useful addition. <ok>

We still have one more loan slot left don't we?

Perhaps we plan on buying one and loaning another we can't afford to buy right now (Guidetti or Abdellahoue perhaps?)

I agree this is a good way to do business and I am glad we have taken this view on most of our players but I do think it can be stretched slightly for the right player if the potential out weighs the risk. If we spent more lets say 5-6 million and stuck to a similar wage budget and we still got relegated we would potentially have a better striker that CMS and he could always be sold.

Too be honest I think if CMS can get some of his old form back he could score a few. I know everyone is going to ask who this slightly more expesnice striker is but i'll keep you guessing on that one.......... as I dont know either!

you'd have thought so wouldn't you! yet some were still shouting yesterday for rhodes, abdelloeue or anyone who costs a lot of money.

It may just be a sign of what is actually available, at a sensible price. Let's face it, we are not going to get proven PL scorer for much under £15m and we all know that fee alone is out of out range, never mind the wages etc.

I know we may not have the most advanced scouting network supers but even as a championship club I would be disapointed if we have no knowledge about europen leagues and players. I understand how this might be the case with some of the far corners of the globe but I dont really buy it when it comes to the majority of europes top leagues.

Wasnt Ewan Chester chief scout for Celtic not so long ago? They most certainly would have had a scouting network in europe. If I have the wrong end of the stick with this then apologies in advance!

I actually think CMS would be a better option than Chris Martin, and maybe even Moro.... Not got a downer on Moro, just that his control lets him down too often, he is a lot like Holty though in style so not sure what this would add in terms of options

If we get relegated, having built a team of players with points to prove from lower leagues should be an advantage, they will hopefully give us more time in the championship.
I think this team would be extremely dangerous in the championship if they stayed together.

Wonder if Chris Martin would be going the other way as part of the deal? Wouldn't be a bad replacement for CMS on Brighton's part anyway.

Seriously supers you are trying to say Norwich city scouts have zero knowledge of other major European leagues? If that's true then frankly it's outrageous.

Any team with

Ruddy
Martin Bennett Bassong Garrido
Fox Johnson
Pilkington Howson Snodgrass
Holt

Plus to think we would also have as a 2nd XI!!! (stronger than the majority of Championship 1st XI)

Bunn
Whittaker Turner Ayala Tierney
E.Bennett, Hoolahan, Butterfield, Surman
Jackson, Morrison

Subs: Rudd, Ward, Barnett, Lappin, Tettey

Safe to say with that team we would tear apart the competition in the Championship, a vast improvement as a squad on what we had when we were in our promotion winning season.

both the above posts are wildly misjudging what we have at our club.

we have limited scouting in and around europe because we could not finance the very expensive requirements to stick numerous people out there full time. of course they do not have 'zero knowledge' - that's ludicrous, but if you think that you simply turn up and watch a player and think they're good then sign them you're living in a dream world. so much research goes into every aspect of a players past and also referencing and you need to build up portfolios of these players - it takes time and money, something norwich have really had neither of when you consider how quickly we have risen through the leagues. as i say, the network is being expanded and improved but you can't just click your fingers and a scout deliver you three gems from somewhere. any scouting network ewan chester built up at rangers will be of no relevance to us other than the odd stand out name he'll have felt works for us - we don't have access to their scouts, we have to use our own. he undoubtedly has a major say in those players we go for and its no coincidence that we are going for a couple of players that lambert wanted, or rather our club wanted! honestly, our scouting system is at least one year, probably two behind where the club currently requires. patience is yet again required. sadly, some of our fans don't have any...
