11 goals in 48 appearances for Brighton is hardly the answer, although it depends on their style of play and what service he was getting.

I hope it doesn't happen and that there's a plan B on the back boiler <ok>

i think there's truth in it. he's a ewan chester recommendation. he never turned us down before - he was the guy who was set to sign for us until dion dublin leaked it on live tv and the plug was pulled. i like him, i think he's a good player and i think he'd have been an excellent signing at the time we were after him initially, ie to help us get promotion. now though, i'm not so sure he's what we need. is he any better than what we currently have? not for me.

As I remember, we didn't get him the first time of asking because after we'd agreed a fee, Barry Fry upped the ante and went public to try and induce a bidding war!

Edit: just seen Super's response, I'd forgotten about Dion's faux pas!

I totally agree with Supers on this. I am sure he's around a similar level to the strikers we have and the only positive I can think of is that I remember him being quite quick and a hard worker.

I hope there are other options for us. I am starting to think we are settling for players that will give us a chance of staying up but we can also keep if we were to get relegated.

Inclined to agree and to be honest it's not a bad strategy should the worst happen. Could be so much worse by signing "names" with high wages and long contracts and getting relegated, so for now I will accept what is happening. If we should end up relegated then I will be about as worried as DM is, i.e. not too much as the 7 year plan factored in a relegation from the PL <ok>

I like him - saw him a few times at Posh and he was always a threat - he's gone off the boil a bit at Brighton but hasn't been used as an out and out striker.

Personally him and Holty up front would be a real handful for a lot of the "non elite" PL defences and I may be hitting against the bricks judging by most people's posts on here but I think he'd be a good acquisition for us....

I think CMS would not be a bad signing at all, he scores goals, and thats the long and the short of it. Put him through with a nice through-ball or weighted chip, and he'll get on the end of it and bang it in. That's his game and that's it really - what more could you realistically ask for?

With regards to the comments relating to "signings to keep us up, but who would also stay if we went down", this is without a doubt an estute way to do business. We could spend a fortune and still go down, then we would be in a real muddle.

CMS would be perfectly satisfactory for me.
