Clearly you've not seen him play - I have, and I rate him. If the fee isn't exorbitant he'd be a good gain for us.

I hope I am right too but I am not always. I say give the guy a chance, at worst he is on a par with Chris Martin so while it could be argued we have not strengthened the squad (if he does not deliver) we certainly have not made it any worse <ok>

Point taken, although at a cost of 3m that might have been used elsewhere.

    Like where for example?
I personally think this could be a great piece of business and I've got a feeling he could turn out to be a real fan favourite. I've seen him play a few times for Posh and the energy he has is incredible, he knows where the goal is as well so if we play to his strengths he will be a huge asset in my opinion.

    <cheers>

If you think of where our current squad came from, for example Jackson - Gillingham, Holt - Shrewsbury, Morison - Millwall, Pilks - Huddersfield etc, and how well they acquitted themselves in the last two/three seasons, there is no reason why Mackail-Smith should be any different.
As long as he - or whoever comes in is hard working, flexible and ambitious, there is a good chance he'll blend in and add something.

Plus as Superman pointed out, with our outstanding debt due for repayment at the end of the season, it's obvious we have to cut our cloth accordingly. So no £8m Rhodes for us - that's just the way it is.
The more I think about it, the more I hope CMS does materialise, as he shows all three attributes I mentioned above in bucket fulls <ok>

i think i'm right in saying that CMS scored almost as many in league one as jordan rhodes, so why are the people who were so desperate to get their hands on young rhodes so against CMS?

As an out and out striker he did <ok> but for whatever reason Brighton didn't use him the same way - a real waste in my opinion although they are going to make a bit of money on the deal.

some interesting points being raised about CMS. must admit when i first heard the news i thought 'meh' but its one of those possible deals where thinking about it more clearly, it makes total sense. i would describe him as 'a typical norwich player', so for that reason, if we get him, i'll be happy. he's hard working, tenacious, positive and hungry. what's not to like?

ok, so he's hardly messi but people need to be realistic. and i think he's better than martin. and better than morison too <ok>

Oh well, the proof of the pudding and all that. Just glad this is all over soon and we can start rooting for our team to win rather than argue over imponderables.

BBC and/or SSN are saying Brighton have enquired about Jay Bothroyd. I guess that would add fuel to this particular rumour. And on twitter Michael Owen is expecting to make news today. <yikes>

Pretty much sums up my views on us signing CMS (if it actually happens) and he will certanly add competition for starting places.

The point I'm making is we've got all the hard working players we need, so why get more of the same, how does it give us more options?

I'd rather we spend 3 million pound looking for players abroad instead? I'm sure with the savings in transfer fees we would easily get it back next year.

CMS is much quicker than Holt and a much better finisher than Jackson and so would give us a different sort of threat although conversely not as good a finisher as Holt or as quick as Jackson so it would be a gamble.

By all accounts the deal is dead anyway but I would have liked to see him and Holt tear into the opposition with Jackoson/Moro to come on when the defence are knackered after having to put up with GH and CMS for an hour or so.

During my many years of supporting City we've always had the "hard working" type of striker - Hugh Curran, Laurie Sheffield, John Manning, Kevin Reeves, Ted MacDougall, Phil Boyer, Justin Fashanu, Robert Fleck,John Deehan, Iwan Roberts, Grant Holt - none of these are the flair strikers such as RVP, Aguero, Suarez, etc - MacDougall was the nearest thing to that kind of instinctive striker, the rest were or are honest, hard-working guys who know where the goal was or is and delivered the numbers.

CMS fits the Canary mould perfectly and I stand by my previous posts that he and Holty in tandem would give most PL defence a hard time and would produce goals.

    Still hoping it happens .....
