The Evening Chronicle is reporting today that Newcastle have indeed held new talks with Vurnon Anitaâs new agent Mino Raiola, but the Dutch International has been told he will not be one of the clubâs top earners, if he elects to join Newcastle United.
Vurnon Anita â Newcastle in talks with Ajax and agent
It seems that the new news on Anita is that his wages could become a difficult hurdle for Newcastle, and of course we know that Ajax have already offered him an improved deal to stay in Holland.
Vurnon has been told basically that his wages will be reconsidered after six months, after he has had a chance to impress at Newcastle, and that seems to us very fair, because Newcastle will no longer pay out huge wages for a player who has not proved himself at Newcastle, like we used to do under Freddy Shepherd.
Newcastle are true to their word too, because Cheick Tiote, Fabricio Coloccini and Tim Krul have all received long term improved contracts at Newcastle, after becoming some of the clubâs very best players. Newcastle definitely pay for performance, and thereâs nothing wrong with that, and most sane companies do exactly that.
If Anita elects to go elsewhere for bigger wages then thatâs fine too, because we donât want players coming to Newcastle just for the money.
It seems that Derek Llambias and secretary Lee Charnley are in talks on the continent to get Vurnon Anita to Newcastle, and thereâs a decent possibility that Gregory van der Wiel could also be part of the deal.
But itâs been clear this summer that Newcastle will not relax their tight transfer policy, even though the club are in good financial shape at the moment, which cannot be said for the vast majority of Premier League clubs, and they still refuse to pay over the odds.
Thereâs a chance that Newcastle could get both Anita and van der Weil through the door, but it could still take some time before we know whether Newcastle have been successful in their efforts â weâll keep out fingers crossed.
