This whole thread about Fergie being a hypocrite is based on something he did well over 2 years ago. Just saying
No its over something Ferguson said in the last few days. He said paying £40 million for a teenager is outrageous. If you include inflation, thats how much £29 million Wayne Rooney would now cost.
This thread is getting on my tits. Every time I refresh it is sat there at the bloody top of the page!!!
£29million now? ok. usually best not to make figures up. and erics post was in response to whoever said about carrolls signing being 2 years ago ( 18 months ). He was showing how stupid it was, thats all.
There are similarities but do you lot honestly believe what PSG have paid for Moura and the wages he is likely to recieve is the same as us going for Rooney who was clearly already a class act in our league. I don't think so.
I agree, its just going to create biting from both Liverpool and United fans. With United fans constantly mentioning Andy Carroll, as if its an insult.
Never mind mentioning that Rooney is a class act, the fact of the matter is, that £29 million for a teenager in 2003 is the equivalent to £40 million for a teenager now.
Much less of a risk, easy to say now as hes been succesful but at the time it made sense to spend that sort of money on a player like Rooney. It makes no sense to pay 40+ for an unproven player who is more likely to fail playing in this country. Risk factor is much worse. And if you add in how much they and we both paid for the first contracts i reckon they will be paying alot more for his services even with inflation than we did for Rooney.
See if you guys had mentioned Anderson rather than Rooney you would of had a point. As it is the rooney debate was silly as many have now pointed out from both sides. Even then, Ando cost half as much as Moura and had european experience but still a big fee for someone with no PL experience who was a kid.
100million euros this is costing them including all fees and wages. Shocking figures. Rooneys was nowhere near, not even close.
I think Rio Ferdinand at £29.1 million for a centre back in 2001 is proof that British players are over-priced. Better players at the time were signed for far less.
One of if not the best defender of the last decade. At a cost of £30million. You want that sort of money for agger and well, hes nowhere near as good as Rio. At the time it was a lot, but considering he was signed for £18million at leeds and had improved since being at west ham then its fair to say his price was right and bloody worth it.
Erm...... Fergie didnt over pay so erm..... the thread had no point. I will say it again, Rooney cost 10million plus another 5 or so in instalments. The other 10million came from targets. If he didnt reach them he cost 15million. If he did then do you think we had any issue paying the other 10million, considering he probably helped us win closer to 500million in his time here?
But could you tell that in 2001 though? He may have turned into Veron. Andy Carroll could yet turn out to be a very good player, he is only 23. Why is it different regarding Ferdinand and Carroll. Nobody knows what Andy Carroll is going to be with the exception of Andy Carroll.
