Manc ******s still don't get the basic point of the thread

it's not about paying a lot of money for young players

it's about paying a lot of money for young players then whining to the press that you shouldn't pay a lot of money for young players

FSG have been consistent - paying a lot of money for young players is fine

get it?

probably not, so **** off to your own board <ok>

Must be fun being that miserable :)

But could you tell that in 2001 though? He may have turned into Veron. Andy Carroll could yet turn out to be a very good player, he is only 23. Why is it different regarding Ferdinand and Carroll. Nobody knows what Andy Carroll is going to be with the exception of Andy Carroll.

Rio was already brilliant at Leeds, one of the bst defenders in the country, an international and a bloody good one at that.

Rio was by and large one of the best defenders in the country when we signed him, hence the 30million price tag.

I've been on a number of forums and they have one thing in common. Manchester United fans up the price of other clubs players and decrease their own.

Depends on the circumstances. It is the opposite when buying someone and selling their own <ok>

C'mon be realistic, he cost £30 million because he's English and thats the only reason. In my opinion Sami Hyypia was a better player and he cost less than £3 million, Marcel Desailly at Chelsea cost less, and I don't have to describe how good he was.

Tough to call.

Rio was a better defender than both during his whole career imo but at the time of signing, maybe not.

And yes we overpaid for the fact hes english, a point I made on page one of this thread when applying it to Rooneys fee. We paid english talent tax.

I wouldn't say its ''talent tax'' Its just there is a premium on players who come from a country where the league is? Have you noticed that Spanish clubs don't sell as much to each other as they do to overseas clubs? The same rule applies if a Spanish player moves to a another Spanish club then the price is higher than if he moves to an overseas club.

One of if not the best defender of the last decade. At a cost of £30million.

You want that sort of money for agger and well, hes nowhere near as good as Rio.

At the time it was a lot, but considering he was signed for £18million at leeds and had improved since being at west ham then its fair to say his price was right and bloody worth it.

Have I just read that right? Am I seeing that this guy believes Rio is a better defender than Agger? That has made me laugh so hard, I nearly fell off my ****in chair!

You are the only one laughing pal, says something dont you think?

Agger will do well to end up half the player rio was at his peak, even now Rio holds a candle to this guy and rios been a cripple for the past few years. Not forgetting how forgetful he can be as you lot like to remind us.

Next you will be telling me Henderson is better than Carrick...

oh wait, you did <laugh>

This **** is still going on? Really not much to talk about today then?

At his peak he easily was. At the time of signing, nah.

Rio at his peak was undoubtedly the best defender in the world.

Marcel proved it at the very very top winning a world cup, european championships and the C.L with 2 different clubs in consecutive seasons. Rio a very good player for a while. In Marcel's class?? have a word. Rio's not even been the best defender at United for years.

Rooney signs for Man Utd following a 'wonder goal' against Arsenal at the age of 18/19? For £29.8 million. And regardless of how and when this fee was paid, someone (Fergie) sat down with Moyes and said we will pay you XYZ for this young player who has only just borken through the ranks to the first team. He wasn't proven, he had just started to make an impression on Evertons first team - If that's proven then Henderson must be a ****in veteran! Henderson has already started to show he can become a great premier league player and at the age of 22 has already established himself as a front runner for an England place having captained the U21's.

FFS, how can signing a fringe team player for nigh on £30 million be any different to signing a 19 year old Brazilian international? Oh sorry, obviously because you ****in said so - You are a ****in muppet and are really starting to wind me up well done becasue let's face it that was your mission, to wind up a LFC fan becasue of your inadequate contribution to the human race! I said it before and I'll say it again, you are the reason we shouldn't mock the inflicted!
