We need a really quick striker who is strong, can pass, hold the ball up and will score 99% of chances.

We need a really quick, skillful winger who can also defend.

We need an out and out left winger who can beat his man and get a cross in.

We need at least 3 central midfielders on par with Yaya Toure.

We need to clone Philip Lahm for our right back, anything else is an absolute failure by Cortese/Adkins/Reed in the transfer market.

Could do with Pique, Vidic (only if he's fit), Thiago Silva, Kompany and maybe Cahill as back up for our centre backs - if we don't do this I can't see us staying up.

Also, Casillas or Hart....I don't mind which.

Chuck in Ronaldo and Messi as well and I think we MIGHT just be ready.
Heskey! <laugh>

Well done, you dolt, that team would be great wouldn't it? Except, umm, you forgot about backups for every position except CB. How do you expect us to get by with only one quick, strong, passing, ball retentive clinical striker? We need at least three.

I did put Messi and Ronaldo in there, is that not enough for you? You needy bitch.

Fox can't deal with pacy wingers, he had problems with Adomah last year

We need a pacy defensive LB this year

Luke Shaw? He's quick. Even Asley Cole doesn't have the legs he used to have. Fox will just have to learn to use his experience. That's what defenders do when they don't have the pace.

Also just back from the game. Agree with a lot of what was said above.

Rodriguez and Lambert looked poor tonight. Rodriguez was playing like a left winger and Rickie had no support at all. He looked a bit rusty to me.

Puncheon had a good game. Nice touches but no pace to get behind the fullbacks so he ultimately drifted out if the game.

Our passing through midfield was good but we we were only able to pass sideways and backwards. Lallana was well marshalled and didn't have time or space.

At centre back Fonte and Hooiveld looked very poor and really didn't look that comfortable on the ball.

JWP and MS didn't get in the game.

The match was truly dreadful. Must have been about 4 shots all game. Saints were trying to pass it in the net.

Guly came on and unfortunately played like an ostrich wearing slippers. Stupid fouls, misplaced passes and the occasional hands on hips moments. I actually like Guly too!

Billy Sharp came on (too late) and gave us a a different option. Very impressed with his few minutes.

Bristol City played well on the counter. I think we will have more time and space in the premier league so it's hard to judge much tonight but we clearly need more quality.

After the game had a nice KFC.

Saints team by end of August

Hart

Lahm
Pique
Cahill
Marcelo

Alonso
M'vila

Ronaldo
Lambert
Lallana

Messi

We clearly need new players, but then you shouldn't bring that up after only one friendly - it's been clear since we were promoted. Players like Fonte will be ripped apart by even the most average of Premiership strikers.

Fantastic!!! Wonder if this had anything to do with him missing out on pre-season which is mostly about fitness?
