    SUNDERLANDY CARROLL
    O’Neill would love Geordie ace

CARR DEALER ... Andy Carroll is set to leave Liverpool this summerPublished: 47 minutes ago 2
MARTIN O’NEILL would love to bring Andy Carroll to Sunderland — despite the striker’s Geordie roots.
Liverpool are ready to offload the £35million striker this summer as he does not suit new boss Brendan Rodgers’ style of football.

Carroll’s old club Newcastle are in the box seat for the England hitman, while West Ham are also monitoring the situation.

And now Black Cats boss O’Neill has thrown his hat into the ring for the former Toon favourite.

The Northern Irishman said: “Andy Carroll is a really good player, a really good player. Would he come to Sunderland?

“He is a very fine player.”

Meanwhile, O’Neill is sweating over the fitness of defender Wes Brown while fellow centre-back Michael Turner is in talks with Norwich over a move.

O’Neill added: “Norwich had asked us about it before Wes’ injury and so having given permission for Michael to go down there and the clubs having agreed a fee, it was just ironic that Wes got injured at the time.

“We will see what develops down in Norwich, but I am hoping that Wes’ injury is not as bad as it might have been.”

Look at that pig flying by my window. Hopefully he'll be back with us soon. Great signing for whoever gets him.

Terrible journalism. Take a comment by MON and make a non-story. There's no way Auntie will play in red and white stripes

    Depends on his professionalism.

It would be difficult to accept another player from scumcastle but he certainly would suit MONs style of play. Big lad who can hold the ball up for midfielders and would score from crosses by seb & mclean.

Its the scumcastle roots being a major problem.

Not really. But I've been in Sunderland most of today and saw loads there. None of them were flying mind, they all had push chairs and greggs pasties.

I am heading home for a long shower now (wash off any Sunderland residue to ensure I don't deform) I've had a lovely day seeing the sights of Wessington Way and Hendon.

Why would you sign Carroll, when Bendtner is just slightly worse (maybe even level on ability) and would be soooo much cheaper?

Carroll is miles better than Bendtner. He wins everything in the air, works better with a team, knocks down well, and is just a far more dangerous, physical threat.

Plus Carroll is a lot better on the ground and technical than most people give him credit for.

    He's not one dimensional.

Have to agree with this, Carroll is miles better than the Bendtner that played for us, but put the **** in a Denmark shirt and it's a different story
