Not relevant , the players are playing on their own behalf , for whom they're allowed

I am fully aware of all that Mabon, our country is a member of the UN, NATO, The EU and IMF and so on, the UK is a country but Wales is not. The individual federations are a part of FIFA and it has been for many years. You are taking what could happen IF this happens and putting a negative spin on it. Honestly you sound like a politician playing the blame game, its not us its them!

FIFA will do nothing, they prefer the staus quo as it suits them and their corruption, they enjoy the brown envelopes, and I would assume our federations are as corrupt as the rest of them. Afterall they are a position of power as you quite rightly say, I would think that they enjoy the backhanders.

To be honest Mabon, you are boring the pants off me with this, I prefer to talk about football, we have a competition about to kick off with football in it, I am ecstatic that our club has 4 players from last season in it, I don't want to talk about politics mate, its rather boring

Yes but you are stopping us talking about this because you don't like the fact that the games have teamGB in it, I understand your opposition but thats it, move on from it. I want to speak about the build of the games, who is going to play first 11, what kind of football we are going to play, but your anti english/british propaganda is preventing us doing that.

Did you see the 'highlights' of the friendly v mexico? they on youtube with mexican commentary!

The formation was shown to be 4-4-2 by the mexicans, but I think it was more like 4-2-3-1, because Ramsey was listed as starting up front! I'll see if i can find the clip

    Valley,
Young Welsh footballers can represent Wales U-21's in International tournaments. They are generally scheduled to suit the football calendar and allow these professional athletes to concentrate on doing their job for their professional clubs. It works just fine.
Any footballer who says that the Olympics represents the "pinnacle of their careers" is being sentimental, logically it can not be the pinnacle of their careers.
The pinnacle of their careers should be representing Wales and any honours they pick up in club football.

If "the Olympic football has always been about the younger players" then why do they allow each side 3 ringers?
It's a nonsense football tournament mate and the scheduling interferes with their professional obligations.

What would winning an Olympic Gold mean? That they got picked for the England U-23 team and were the best u-23 side in the World? That they had better ringers?
Perhaps the Olympics should run a tournament to find out the best U-24 team? Or the best over-65 team? Makes as much sense doesn't it...would make more sense without the ringers.

All they are doing is cheapening what it should mean to be an Olympian.

I consider myself Welsh and British. I will be ****ing angry if any of these boys miss Wales games because of this or damage the Swans' start to the season. In any other walk of life you'd be risking the sack for such unprofessionalism.

Professionals have no business being at the Olympics.

I am just pointing out the dangers and risks for the celtic nations which are very real. Fair play you know my issues with the team gb olympic football team, so out of respect for a fellow swan i will withdraw from the thread and leave you to discuss what it is you wish to discuss with our fellow swans.

I agree, incidentally, but while football is there we may as well try and compete!

    Dai

    List in order of preference the following;

    - Swans staying in the Premier for another season
    - Swans winning a cup
    - Wales qualifying for an International tournament
    - Swans beating Cardiff. 9 (nine) - 0
    - Swans beating Cardiff. 1 - 0
    - Wales u-21's qualify for an International tournament.
    - Team GB winning gold medals

In fact let's open it up, take a straw poll....find out what Olympic football is really worth

Tell you what Terror, next time you speak to any of the players taking part, ask them what it means to them? They are the ones competing, they are the ones who wanted to be picked. Ask David Beckham how he feels about not being picked. To much emphasis is put on what we think, try to to look at it from the players point of view.

What the hell has this got to do with anything?????? If you agree that football is a sport then it has a place in the olympic games that is the biggest sporting event for all sports in the world....there is no denying it as its a fact...Should the swans pull out of the F.A cup or league cup for fear of injuries? Of course we wouldn't, The olympics come around every 4 years and i hope by the next olympics we can enter a team that is not restricted to the U23's

    The 10 most watched sports in the World are;

    1) Football / Soccer
As we all know it's all about the World cup, and continental competition (both club and country)...not the Olympics

    2) American Football
    Not at the Olympics

    3) Cricket
    Not at Olympics

    4) Rugby Union and League
    Not at Olympics

    5) Baseball
    Not at the Olympics

    6) Basketball
Ok it's an Olympic sport but the viewing figures mostly come from the NBA. We saw what the Dream team did to their fellow Olympians.

    7) Boxing
    Audrey Harrison v David Haye

    8) Golf
    Not at Olympics

    9) Tennis
Who's the greatest tennis player? Federer (no Olympic medals) or Marc Rosset (won Gold in 92)

    10) Formula 1
That's right, NOT at the Olympics

You see, sports that can sell tickets don't need the Olympics.
It was meant to be for amateurs so we could find out who can throw a spear the furthest etc.
