The individual federations are a part of FIFA and it has been for many years. You are taking what could happen IF this happens and putting a negative spin on it. Valley, Young Welsh footballers can represent Wales U-21's in International tournaments. They are generally scheduled to suit the football calendar and allow these professional athletes to concentrate on doing their job for their professional clubs. It works just fine. Any footballer who says that the Olympics represents the "pinnacle of their careers" is being sentimental, logically it can not be the pinnacle of their careers. The pinnacle of their careers should be representing Wales and any honours they pick up in club football. If "the Olympic football has always been about the younger players" then why do they allow each side 3 ringers? It's a nonsense football tournament mate and the scheduling interferes with their professional obligations. What would winning an Olympic Gold mean? That they got picked for the England U-23 team and were the best u-23 side in the World? That they had better ringers? Perhaps the Olympics should run a tournament to find out the best U-24 team? Or the best over-65 team? Makes as much sense doesn't it...would make more sense without the ringers. All they are doing is cheapening what it should mean to be an Olympian. I consider myself Welsh and British. I will be ****ing angry if any of these boys miss Wales games because of this or damage the Swans' start to the season. In any other walk of life you'd be risking the sack for such unprofessionalism. Professionals have no business being at the Olympics.

Tell you what Terror, next time you speak to any of the players taking part, ask them what it means to them? They are the ones competing, they are the ones who wanted to be picked.
