So many things wrong here; 1) obviously I don't agree that the Olympics should include every sport in the world. Nothing "has" to be. I am denying it and my argument IS based on fact. What do you want an Olympic Gold being draped around Sebastien Vettel? Ronnie O'Sullivan? Phil 'the power' Taylor? 2) We make money out of the League and F.A. Cups 3) The team is not restricted to the under 23s, absurdly everyone is allowed 3 ringers Oh and, what has it got to do with anything? If you are happy for the Wales World Cup campaign and our pre season to be ****ed about with but put Team GB winning gold at the bottom of that list your argument is absurd.
And there are plenty of sports that do need the olympics. Now tell me the biggest sporting events in the world are 1) The Olympics 2) The football world cup 3) The Superbowl
The Super Bowl is a load of ****, how the fcuk is that considered a worldwide sports event? Overhyped American crap. Olympic games is the biggest global sporting event bar none.
Will do. Next time you bump into one of our Olympians ask them what earning £15,000+ a week means to them. I couldn't give a **** how they feel about it. We pay their wages while they play around at the Olympics and I'm not happy about it.
You are missing the point, this is about the players not us And lets face reality here, they mess around with internationals, and international friendlies while we pay their wages. And basically I couldn't give a hell right now about that.
I know mate, but its number 3 and I know loads of people who stay up and watch it all and they must be american welsh
I'm not missing the point. Mess around with internationals? International football brings money into football! You didn't hear public debates regarding whether we should have bothered to host Euro '96 did you!!! Because people want to watch it. Will your local pub be packed to the rafters to watch the Olympics 100m final? Your local pub drums up more custom from 1 Swansea city game. Biggest sporting event in the World,is it bollocks. It's got the most participants and events, I'll give it that...and everyone in the World tunes in for let's say...all of 5 minutes. Nobody actually cares! There won't be a national grieving when Dai Greene inevitably loses the 400m hurdles final because barely anyone gives a ****. It's fine for showcasing someone like Dai Greene to people who are interested, or bored, but our footballers have no business there. As far as I'm concerned our players who are there are disloyal or misguided and can **** off to the highest bidder. Neil Taylor was on his arse, now we've given him his dream career and he basically says **** pre season I need some me time. What planet are these people on?
That is a load of crap terror, saying the players are disloyal ffs grow up will you! There is no disloyalty in this at all they are representing our country on the biggest stage in the world for their age group. Who will tune in for for the under 21 championships ? The answer is hardly anyone! As for selling our players because they are in the Olympics , honestly words fail me, you would see us relegated because of a fit of pique, you would see Wales not qualify for anything as I guess you wouldn't want then playing for them either? And by the way I will be supporting teamGB up in Wembley , perhaps you want me to **** off as well from here for doing so ?
With a GB team Welsh players would have a their only chance of success in a major world tournament final. Just like some Welsh clubs play outside of the Welsh football league system for greater success.
You're the one who needs to grow up son. It's not a load of crap it's the way the World works. If somebody is paying your wages to do a job and fulfil their objectives you need to turn up when they need you too when said objectives need to be achieved. The fact that you and millions of others fail to grasp this basic truth and instead prioritise people's feelings and individuals freedom to do whatever the **** they want is the reason why the West is on it's knees. I would see us relegated?!? I'm prioritising the fight against relegation and Wales' World Cup campaign. If I ran the club they would have been sold and replacements brought in already. Players who want to give their all to Swansea's cause in return for piles of money. They would be hard at work in training right now and our chances of avoiding relegation would be improved. What the **** has your summer itinerary got to do with this argument. You can do what the **** you want as Swansea City don't pay your wages. I trust you are going to watch the Olympics in your employers time yes??
That's not the question I asked !! Funny how it seems to be avoided by most. Who would want to play as GB with no Wales, Scotland, N.Ireland or England teams any more ?
Also Valley, "they are representing our country on the biggest stage in the World for their age group" How come all of the England internationals under the age of 23 who took part in the Euros won't be there? (I'll bet all of the footballers under 23 who were at Euros will give it a miss also) What is this tournament the 'best of the rest of the under 23s with a few ringers thrown in Championship'? Utter nonsense. Milburn990, If they want to achieve something they should earn it on the field with their clubs and Wales.... Everyone has been going on about what an achievement this Olympic squad is for the Welsh lads and the Swans, they haven't achieved anything. Being selected isn't an achievement. They could win the thing and it would still come bottom of most Swans fans lists (re: my list above). Which tells you what an achievement it would be. DILI, They're avoiding the question because answering it honestly would reveal an uncomfortable truth. Wales all the way mate....and that is coming from someone who abhors nationalism. The fact that us Welsh can represent ourselves on the sports field and in the stands is precious and needs to be treasured, not sacrificed on the altar of a few individuals' ego.
So how Scott Sinclair should he be sold as well? Or is it just the double standards for the welsh players? Maybe we shouldn't take on Caulker if the opportunity arises because he played for teamGB? And its a good job you don't run the club as you won't be very good at running it clearly, players go on international duty for Wales and other countries sometimes, perhaps they should be sold ? Its a hell of an honour for these players, it increases their profile, if they do well that can only be a good thing for our club as they will command a greater fee should they move on. You really are not getting the concept here, its about the players, they have a right to represent their country, its probably even in the contract they have. As for my summer itinerary, I go to Florida in 3 days time with the family, when I come back I am spending a week in Slough and going to a couple of games, then a few events I have managed to gain tickets for. And yes I will be watching the games in my employers time, that is the great thing about the company I work for, they have allowed us to stream the games to the company mobiles if we get time to watch any events when I return to work
You think its utter nonsense which is fair enough that is your opinion, but as its not about you or myself for that matter, it makes no difference, the games are happening, the players have been chosen, they are ecstatic to be chosen, its about the players not us with our opinions
Valley, I know it wasn't aimed at you mate but we've had a few visitors to our board and a few Jacks too who have avoided the question. I've got you down as Wales first and foremost
What is the name of this company who is fine with you watching footie on your mobile instead of concentrating on work? I've just got to know I've been advocating the sale of Scott Sinclair for a couple of months now, ever since he stalled on the contract (and yes he is disloyal. His career was going down the pan when he signed for us. Stuck in Chelsea reserves, a couple of loans where he failed to shine. We signed him, paid him well and played him every week. 2 years later he wants to **** on us and would rather try and sell himself to the highest bidder at the Olympics than turn up for work. He'll be gone by the end of the summer. Goodbye and good riddance.) Believe it or not it would be much harder for me to say goodbye to the Welsh boys but the same professional standards should apply. Why do you keep repeating the Internationals equate to the Olympics argument? I told you, International football brings money into the game as a whole and is scheduled to fit in with European club football. It may have escaped your notice but FIFA don't hold the World Cup on the eve of the start of the season. This is because FIFA has the interests of football at heart, which means the preservation and fostering of the professional club sides. It's all about selling tickets at the end of the day, something the Olympics is failing to do in a football mad country....says it all. As regards the players rights.... Their country, as regards football, is Wales. Nobody has a problem with them representing their country. As Mabon points out, the very act of representing Great Britain (the nation state they are citizens of), calls into question the legitimacy of the Welsh, Scottish and Northern Irish football associations as the situation here in the UK is an anomaly and not popular internationally...the status quo is not popular within FIFA. It is you who is not getting the concept. These players do not have the right to jeopardise the position of the Welsh football team or Swansea's position within the English league structure. There are a lot of people who have a legitimate interest in the outcome of their decision. Were you consulted? I wasn't. Did I say you never answered his question? I think it's you who need to re-read. Because you and Ryan Giggs no longer give 2 ****s about the Welsh International football team doesn't mean everyone else has given up....what about future generations? "it's about the players not us and our opinions" It will be about us if a few years from now I can't take my son to watch Wales play football but am instead reduced to hoping a Welshman gets picked for GB, and it certainly is about the interests of Swansea City. As we are all fans this is a legitimate debate.
I would rather not say who I work for, needless to say its connected to a rather large mobile phone operator in a roundabout way, hence the data usage is not really an issue.
How does playing for TeamGB jeopardise the individual nations? The competition is not affiliated with FIFA at all, it's not one of their competitions. The Olympics are held in the summer yes it interrupts the preseason a bit if players are chosen, but so do other things interrupt the season itself, you have internationals that interfere with games. like the euros or copa America or Africans nation cup, or the biggest the world cup. Look at the dates of the qualifying Wales have, all in the middle of the season. Tell me how that is fitting in ? As for me not giving a **** about Wales like Giggs I said I feel disenfranchised with it at the moment because of the FAW, looking at the amount of people turning up at internationals I am not alone! To be frank with you terror I am British and so are the players playing in TeamGB, I am happy they are representing our country, to say we should sell all players taking part is ****ing stupid in the extreme, we will have enough problems keeping players we want without a fit of pique by fickle fans . Thank **** Huw is running our club and not you, that is all I have got to say on this now.
The fact is all the players have been cleared to play for GB and thats all that matters, It was about time too, The olympics is the biggest combined sports event in the world and we have been left out of it for far to long and at least for this olympics we have someone significant to support instead of watching all the other football nations taking part. we are lucky to have some welsh players deemed good enough to play with an added bonus of three of our own players in the squad so im really excited about this. they may not go far in the competition but its taking part that counts....If in any way this would jeopardize our status as a country then we would not play but fifa did not have a leg to stand on stopping players playing for GB and have cleared all the players that have been selected to play. so there is no argument, no if's or buts as its happening in a couple of weeks......just enjoy and stop clutching at straws as you have no basis for an argument.....it all done and dusted in the proper and legal way with clearance from the top...
