The Michu rumour seems to be one that is big for a few days then goes quiet again, before reappearing a month or so later.

Examples include Steven Davis and Kevin De Bruyne <whistle>

What kind of a question is that? It's got to do with experience.

Fair enough. Joe is right that Clyne hasn't been in the game as long as Richardson.

I just think he has less weaknesses. Beyond his height I don't see any gaping holes in his game. But we shall see. I still think he is already a better player.

His marking impressed me in the games where we played them. I saw the 2 games at Selhurst.

2 games are not enough to make a judgement on a player though so if it happens we can only wait and see him play.

Bit daft of me to make a judgement on those 2 games I'll admit. Certainly has big potential though.

It's late, I'm tired, I'm off to bed.

He doesn´t have to have the same amount of experience as Richardson to be better than him in many more aspects.

If he's good enough for Nige, then he's good enough for me.

I'd say that all he's got over Richardson right now is pace. We're going to be up against it next season, and it'll be a hell of a step up for a 21 year old.

Age has nothing to do with it. Michael Owen was a world beater at 18, Oxlade-Chamberlain and Bale weren't bad for us at 17. Richardson is decent going forward but defensively nothing special. There's every chance Clyne could be better, no matter what age he is.

Richardson should be in his prime now. If Clyne is as good as him at 21 having represented England at U21 and U19 level that's fine by me.

If he has pace as an added quality too, another reason to bring him in. I think it's a good signing and the guy is better than Richardson, and he was named in the Team of the Year as RB.

It seems we try and collect players from the teams of the year... Dickson was in one I think? Rodriguez...Clyne?

He wasn't an Adkins signing. All I can say!

Players improve with age, especially defenders. How can age possibly have nothing to do with it? How well would a 12 year old do?

Clyne looked pretty solid to me the few times I saw him...seems to have a good idea of what he's doing out there, as despite his movement forward I can't remember him being caught out too frequently. He and Buttner would make for an intriguing fullback pairing in that regard; we needed pace, and ability both to provide width and get back defensively, and both offer it in a big way. If we want to keep playing our game in the Prem, we're going to need athletes out there.

If you're good enough, you're old enough. That said, I still feel Richardson is better at this moment in time.

I do like Richardson but I think we are in need of someone like Clyne who, like Schad said, is more of an athlete and can get up and down the pitch and has pace.

As much as I'd love to see us playing with two full-backs bombing down the flanks and taking people on, I think they might be a little pre-occupied with all the defending they'll have to be doing this season. When we come up against the likes of Bale, Hazard and Silva, I'd much rather see an experienced defender with a cool head up against them.

I would think that players like Bale, Hazard and Silva could get past Richardson easier than Clyne. When Richardosn is beat, he´s beat, he doesn´t have the pace to get catch up with players like Bale. Clyne is much more mobile and would be more of a pest for quick players than Richardson would be. I can see your point about us having two full backs bombing down the flanks though, we don´t want to get caught out behind. I would think that Adkins would make sure that when a full back commits himself to attack then someone like Cork or Davis would cover.
