We have just paid £1 million for Jamie Vardy and I'm quite excited about that - an unknown quantity with, at this point, wonderful potential ... but he could flop

£2 million for a player of Prostrateitch's experience and goalscoring record is not a major gamble - you would undoubtedly recoup half of that selling him back to the continent if he bombs .... on the other hand, if he translates his Swiss scoring record to the Championshio he could either fire you to promotion or at least enable you to sell him on for 5x what you have paid ... have some faith ... £35 million for Andy Carroll, £20 million for RobbieKeane, £20 million for aquilani and £22 million for Jordan Henderson fit my definition of 'reckless spending' ... step forward Liverpool FC ...

Sunderland must have pissed themselves when Liverpool came in with that bid for Henderson, he's looked very poor.

I've said repeatedly in this thread that I don't have much of an opinion one way or another regarding him signing. You're the one who's asked for this thread to be closed - which is what I really don't get.

You've quoted a particularly biased local German paper, and from that have stated that he is definitely not coming. I've said wait and see. I don't know the first thing about him. what I do know is that he is one of the few players we have been openly linked to, and so I'm happily chatting about the speculation. The only reason I'm sticking my ebb in is that I speak German and can seem quite clever on this thread, instead of my usual clueless pleb...

I would imagine this thread will die a natural death once he's moved somewhere and we've all stopped arguing...

The fact that both player and agent are now in Portugal says alot, imo. Neither party would have gone to such lengths if there was not a much hope of a deal. imo.

Nick Proschwitz and his agent are flying out to Portugal to discuss £2m move with SB this afternoon. I'm suprised we are spending this much on him

£2m will be cheap if he helps us get back to the PL. Its now time to roll the dice a little more and gamble.

Good strikers don't come cheap these days, and if he does turn out to be a hit, it will be a good deal.

Agreed. Plus the championship is not exactly full of quality defenders is it ? Luckily we have 2 of the best in Hobbs and Chester but dont tell Lesta that. No, Nick P. will do very well in our league. He knows how to finish and thats a great start.

Philip Buckingham ‏@PJBuckingham

Heading to #hcafc's training base for the latest on German striker Nick Proschwitz. Due here today to discuss terms. Full story in the HDM.

Nice that Buckingham is keeping upto speed.

Well it seems we have saved up to £750,000 by not going for Mannone (allowing for the £250,000 on Amos).
O/T. I'm also quite curious about that fee paid for Amos. I don't remember seeing any other examples of 'loan fees' in the past. I wonder whether it could be some sort of down-payment giving us an option to sign him next season.

Most loan players command a loan fee of some sort. £250k for Amos is not much for a season. imo

2 million on a striker ? About time. No guts, no glory.

Agreed. But it may well be less as a down payment and the rest to follow at a leter date. Whatever, £2m if he does the bizz is cheap for quality.

In the comments under that article, one person says he expects he will earn five times his current wage if he comes to us. I think that might be a tad optimistic.
I bet he's right. A German second division player will probably be on about £3k a week. I bet he can get £12-15k here. I said the other day that we would be the better option financially but that guy wasn't having it.

What is the difference between a man and a parasite? A man builds. A parasite asks "Where is my share?" A man creates. A parasite says, "What will the neighbors think?" A man invents. A parasite says, "Watch out, or you might tread on the toes of God..."

Sign him up.

That actually made me laugh....£5.5m indeed!

That one doesn't bother me .. partly because our owners can afford it ... Ade Akinbiyi now ... that's a different story ... we got £11 million for Emile Heskey - big money (Liverpool's record signing at the time) and spent close to half on it on a bloke who could not trap a bag of wet cement!

I went to watch a pre-season friendly against Wycombe Wanderers that we won 4-1 (at their place) ... he scored a quite amazing goal from near the touch line which eluded everyone including the Wycombe keeper ... "Wow" said the bloke next to me "Do you think he meant that" ... "No" I replied quietly putting my face in my hands as the reality of what I had just seen seeped into my brain ... "It was a shanked cross" ... from a £5million pound player!... that was probably the highlight of his career with us ...

A man says: "You're OK Fossie, but you can be a bit tiresome....."

(P.S. Don't you have your own forum? Or is it as boring as NP?)

Cheers Stan - and yes I do ... but I'm a gregarious sort and like to explore ... think of it akin to a wander along the trail of the lonesome pine ... you just never know what might be around the next corner ...

Agreed. Just consider what OJ was earning last season for what he did.? The step up in class looks well worth it, imo.
