football wasn't what it is today back then - for starters, chelsea's ground didn't hold much more than 25k at that time!

anyone who thinks chelsea are not or have never previously been a big club is in denial. perfectly fair to say they were not successful or underachieved but they were always a big name. they have always been a much bigger club than qpr and are likely always to be so. nothing wrong with that - qpr are a good club, but they aren't comparable to chelsea in terms of stature.

QPRs ground only holds 18k so how do you know thats preventing us from getting lots more?

You cant say they will always be bigger as you simply dont know, especially if the russian leaves.
Look at Fulhams Att.

Youd have called QPR a bigger club than them at that point, then Fulham were the bigger team and now its swinging back to QPR.
 
Again, QPR will suffer due to being located in London when it comes to concerts and other non-football events. There are more than enough locations for these events. Wembley stadium already has multiple uses and there are plenty of other football stadiums in London that are bigger doing the same thing. There are also venues such as the O2 arena to compete with.
 
I'm really sorry to be negative but the whole idea of QPR, a club that can't support 20,000 fans and is on the doorstep of one of the biggest clubs in the world, which is ALSO building a HUGE stadium in battersea, is just a complete joke.

QPR can't support such and investment and to claim that it could be used for concerts etc with a roof or whatever is farcical to, as the 02 and wembley and chelseas new stadium are are just down the road and far better.

There is no demand for it, it won't happen, but it is mockneyland so I guess anything could happen.

We'll continue to develop one of the finest traditional grounds in the country I think. They can keep the "air Asia arena" lol

And just to add, tony Fernandez isn't that rich, is he? I mean, he's got a few quid but he's no kroenke or abrahmovich.

fulham aren't a bigger club than qpr. you seem to be confusing success with size - they are different.

its common sense - qpr are in an area where there is severe competition and you would do remarkably well to attract 30k let alone 45k. i'm not trying to be difficult, as i say, its common sense. your owner is trying to create something massive at a club he can't do it with. indeed, the only people i know who disagree with this are qpr fans, perhaps not surprisingly!
 
Beef the 02 Arena is nearer Norwich than the West End. I can see a multi use stadia based on the edge of Central London working. Again I'm not sure you having any knowledge of the figures supporting this as I definitely haven't but I can't see someone burning say £50m on a new stadium purely as a vanity project...not even in the mixed up World Class club that is QPR!

Also whilst Swiss Tony is the frontman and (relatively speaking!) has little cash to support this don't forget the mittal family are major shareholders and well entrenched at the club http://www.arcelormittal.com/corp/ & http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lakshmi_Mittal I can't see a bloke worth $28.7billion tossing this one off

Then again it is QPR so absolutely anything could happen and probably will
 
Supers - will agree a jump from say 18k sellout at Loftus Road to 45k at the 'Air Asia Arena' will not work. Can only build over a period of time.

His fortune increased buy £200m this year and hes also backed by Mittal, Britains richest man who is richer than both the above.

We cant support 20k fans because the ground is only 18k, 3k of which are away fans and 2.5k seats cant see at least 1 goal. So you cannot buy a ticket to see both goals if the att is over 13k. would you pay £30-£50 for that view with your knees dug into the seat in front if youre over 5ft 5?

Your average attendance last season was over 1,000 lower than your stadium capacity, at 17k. You weren't selling out every match- playing teams like Bolton at home only drew crowds of 15k. If you were selling out every match and had a waiting list on season tickets, I could understand increasing to capacity to around 25,000, with foundations to easily convert that to another 5k or more, but straight to 35k seems like running before you can walk.

If the sight is impaired, I suppose you really do need a new stadium though
 
There's not just the O2 arena though, but that is Lindon so it's close enough. Wembley, Stamford Bridge and the Emirates are already used for more than football. Also, with the Olympic stadium which will have even more uses there is a heck of a lot of competition.

The reason it wasnt selling out is that we had to give 3k to away fans so if Bolton took 800, wed sell out the home end and still only have 15800 with people thinking it was out fault.
Virtually all the non sell outs were because of the away team not selling out, hardly the fault of the home fans.

Its also 45k with a roof, thats why its not smaller with the possibility for expansion.

that's all i'm saying. i love the fact your owner is being ambitious but there is a ceiling that will be realistic and he has gone way, way over that. its irrelevant how much money people have behind the scenes - if its not feasible to work long term then its not feasible at all. these people won't be around forever and the club will need to operate without them. qpr are not a wealthy football club - the owners are but the club is not. it already pays ludicrous, over-the-top wages to players whom realistically it cannot afford. does it want a stadium it can't afford too?

you need a new stadium and with the backing behind the scenes you can afford to be ambitious, but that shouldn't mean you build something that isn't really appropriate for the club. a 30k stadium with an option to increase capacity is the best way forward and perhaps its more obvious from an outsider to see that but i'd genuinely worry that a bigger ground would end up being a noose around the neck. and don't kid yourselves... these people aren't wealthy cos they 'give money away'. there will be something in it for all of them too - prices are likely to increase, not decrease. they aren't going to just 'gift' you a new stadium. this is a major decision and if you take a step back from it you might be a little worried.

thing is, bolton only brought about 300 to our game yet we still sold out because home fans demanded the tickets. that's not an excuse for not filling your ground.
 
This sounds like total madness to me.

The whole idea of the owners being the richest in the country so everything will be alright is total bollocks. These people haven't made their money by throwing their money around willy and indeed nilly. In my opinion, that size stadium would be filled to maximum a handful of times in about three years.

If I was a billionaire businessman with 'vision', one of the last clubs I would like to buy would be QPR!

I'm afraid to say that this is a car crash waiting to happen and Tony Fernandes is the guy falling asleep at the wheel.<ok>
 
I would think it is an excellent move if they build a 30k seater with the option of expanding, but 45k seems over ambitious. Not sure they will grow at a quick enough rate to make that a success but of course none of us know the exact details. Would take a long time to pay back the £180 million regardless of them hosting other events as well.
