Butland was playing for the U21s while Johnstone was playing for Scunthorpe, just did a bit of cross-reference. Either way it comes down to whose word we're going to take - the multiple scouts worldwide who watch Butland, the England coaching staff who called Butland into the Euro squad, the Team GB coaching staff who have named Butland the Olympic starter, or, this guy's brother.
And for the record, not that i even care, he dislocated his thumb before the euros, dropping out of the team, and then moved on loan to s****horpe after his recovery. Even if he hadnt, im sure playing regular league 1 football would have been more important than the under 19s euros anyway
I think Fran and Dan have this right. We can assume one GK is coming in, whether that is a no.1 or 13 is another debate. As soon as one of those gets an injury that is going to keep them out for more than two weeks, Nicola can get on the blower to the Premier League and sort out an emergency loan. Last year Forecast fell to fourth choice behind Dovey who has now joined Eastleigh in the Conference South (who by the way finished last season above all three clubs that Forecast was on loan to). For that reason I don't expect to see Forecast in the 25 man squad.
I can't ever remember us carrying 3 actual keepers. We've always had a number 3 - Neil Moss, Scott Bevan - but never actually 3 proper keepers.
Closest thing I can think of is your suggestion of getting an emergency loan in. Niemi and Smith on the books, Kasey Keller in as a short-term loan to cover them. There was also Davis, Bart and Wright. And though Wright wasn't an emergency loan, he was still a loan - so that doesn't really count either.
Agreed but if we sign one and assuming it's too soon to blood our academy keeper, that only gives us 2. Im not counting Forecast!
I would as well, but unless we've got nearly got him already, he'll be biding his time to see what offers are out there.
Unless there is something in the pipeline, the decision to allow Dovey to go to Eastleigh is baffling. He is a quality keeper voted by Eastleigh fans as the best they have ever had. I was also under the impression that the Saints coaching staff rated him highly. It seems odd to me that we have a stated aim to get our academy players into the 1st team and here we had one who might have been good enough and yet we let him go and seem prepared to splash £6m on another 19 year old. I've seen him and Forecast play and I know which one I would rather have. I wonder if a different call would have been made had we still been in the Championship.
I have seen Forecast ummm what do you call it umm oh yeah play. He didn't even look like a keeper or act like one, just looked like some random on the goal line.
