Jan Vertonghen to meet Ajax in hope of completing move to Tottenham
• Defender is in dispute with Ajax over terms of departure
• The Brazil midfielder Oscar also confirms interest from Spurs

guardian.co.uk, Friday 6 July 2012 13.52 BST

Jan Vertonghen will hold talks with Ajax on Friday in a bid to resolve the dispute which is holding up his transfer to Tottenham. Vertonghen has been in discussions with Spurs for some time but has been unable to finalise his move to White Hart Lane due to a contractual dispute with his current employers.

It is understood that the Belgian centre-back, who is in the final year of his contract, believes he is entitled to a cut of the reported £9m transfer fee, but Ajax disagree. The two parties will meet on Friday with the aim of resolving the dispute so the 25-year-old can complete his move to the north London club.

"We have a meeting with Ajax at the end of this morning to come to a solution," read a statement from Nakhli Mondial, who represent Vertonghen, in the Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf. "There is some movement and we have the intention to come to an agreement."

If the transfer is completed Vertonghen will become André Villas-Boas' second signing since he took over earlier this week. The Portuguese has already snapped up Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim and he is determined to add more youthful players to the ranks.

Brazil midfielder Oscar, 20, has confirmed that Tottenham have contacted him about a potential transfer from his current club Internacional.

"They [Tottenham] contacted my agent," Oscar told Brazilian website Lancenet. "I do not know if there was an official proposal, you'll have to ask my manager or the president."

Still looks promising.

Dutch newspaper De Telegraff is reporting the deal has been finally agreed. 9M + 3M add ons. I won't believe it until I see it on the Spurs website.

I don't understand it, there's clearly a clause about this 15%, but it looks like no clarity as to who pays it. If it is stated in the clause then one of the clubs would breaking the terms of the agreement and liable for legal action. It really is odd.

Vertonghen: four plus two years

From our special reporter
Nothing can stop the transfer of Jan Vertonghen to Tottenham Hotspur in the way. After a marathon session at the Amsterdam ArenA were the interests of Ajax - Nakhli Mondial - and Amsterdam in broad agreement on the part of the transfer Vertonghen (nine million down, three million variable) receives.

Late Friday night, the agreements were put on paper. Once that's done, put the Belgians in London signed a contract for four years with an option for another two seasons.
That deal is still around, is a relief for Vertonghen, who yesterday left the training camp of Ajax. "The last days were not easy," he acknowledged in De Lutte
