He's off to PAOK on loan.

My suggestion of chucking in Bentley, who could take advantage of the fact crosses are like Kryptonite to Eredivisie keepers due to wingers all cutting inside could still work...

    Courtesy of Google translate:

Jan Vertonghen made his comeback against VV Oldenzaal with Ajax. The captain will actually next Monday to start training with Tottenham Hotspur, but because there is no agreement between all parties, he closes temporarily to the Ajax Selection. He played his first minutes "with mixed feelings.

    Exemplary
"I'm glad the guys at Ajax. I think it is absolutely okay to be here," he said after the game against including Ajax Life . "I know my position: an exemplary captain. Ajax and I respect my teammates."

That does not mean that he prefers to London had been natural. Vertonghen is due for a new adventure, has also been told his trainers that he stands. "It is a matter between the fiduciaries and the clubs. I still hope they come out. But it is a different situation than I expected." Vertonghen Oldenzaal came in half an hour in action. He had the third grader at a very quiet evening. Still, his heart rate is quite high, noted trainer Frank de Boer.

Was it the tranfer troubles? Vertonghen denies. "I have been ill, and just back from vacation. This was my first game back. I still breeding condition. In addition to the races I went with my head sometimes somewhere else, but not during a game. It is not easy to button to convert, but I can do. "

so, does that mean he is due to start training with us on monday? or he was due to start training with us on monday? dated July 4th, so next monday would indicate 9th July.

    This saga is just painful.

How do you think Ajax keep bringing through these players?
It's like a stable with horses, isn't it?
If one breaks through, then breed him and sell him. <ok>

Good academy and coaches. Plus all the cream will want to go there as they know they are 1 of the 2 biggest clubs in the country and have the best academy and coaches.

ssn did a feature on FC Twente yesterday and how the style of football in holland is about passing it from the back and playing entertaining football. Mclaren was saying how he had to adapt when he got there, because the fans just want good football, and results aren't THAT important. All the kids are taught football the "dutch way" from a really young age and their skill sets develop from there. Even Goalkeepers are encouraged to pass it to a defender from a goalkick, rather that hoof it down the pitch.

Maybe that philosophy is the reason that there's such a good % of players that come out of holland.

If that were true wouldn't the Dutch League be stronger than it is? It stands to reason that a country which produces top players will, by enlarge, be one of the strongest leagues. The Spanish have a densely-packed conveyer belt of technically gifted players coming through which is why the league is considered, in terms of talent, the best in the world. I still think the Dutch are benefiting from their conveyer belt which is still slowing down from decades ago when they were genuinely the source of the world's top talent. There's less and less talent coming out of Holland though, partly because many clubs over there are turning to South America for their players. Work permits and passport/residency laws over there make it easier than anywhere else which is why a lot of potentially good dutch players aren't making it. They're heading the same way as us.

The problem is that the top players in Holland are spirited away to Spain, Italy, Germany or England within a few of seasons of them stepping into the first team - so not only do the teams have to replace them at regular intervals, but because they leave Holland the talent doesn't stay within the league.

The system is similar to that in Germany, with the top players being drawn to a small number of clubs (Ajax, PSV and Feyenoord in Holland, Bayern, Dortmund, Schalke, Hamburg and Leverkusen in Germany) - the difference being the German clubs can keep hold of them, whilst the Dutch clubs can't.

The Eredivie, Ligue 1 and the Primeira Liga are all in the same boat - they can produce talent, but can't keep hold of them. They're stronger than the majority of leagues in Europe, but considerably weaker compared to La Liga, Serie A, the Bundesliga and the Premeir League.

A freelance sports journalist for the sunday times has just announced on twitter that Vertonghen is done.

Twitter is going mad, but it's the only mention of it so far.

if he's wrong, there's going to be war!

    this is sooooooo painful!!!!

If he was a Little prick spreading bullshit, I would have ignored it. But someone who is supposedly a journalist, should not do so. Especially if he's trying to get a good reputation for himself.

To bluntly say vert is a done deal, after everything we've been through, is a massive statement!!!
