Nixon was also near dead-certain that we'd sign Collins back in Jan. Even speculated about a month ago that Cortese was about to ditch Adkins, to get a bigger name in. Oh, and weren't we apparently Rob Green last month too.

Can't say I really trust, nor care, what comes out of Nixon's mouth any more.

My old man said the Adkins Out story hit the newspapers on Sunday too.

Very strange move. Unless someone leaves, I can't see how he gets into that midfield ahead of Parker, Modric and VdV. A quality player no doubt, but one who I can see doing a fair bit of bench-warming over the next 12 months now.

Should have come to the South coast, I'm sure we could have made room for him

I have the impression because of his relationship with Rodgers they thought they could offer him less money. So much for the relationship I guess!

It reminds me of the off-the-cuff words Adkins said about inevitably leaving SFC, just a day or so after achieving promotion, against Coventry. It's entirely possible that Cortese's minimum ambition is something that Nigel felt, at the time, given the emotional state that he was in, was slightly beyond him. Now, weeks after that promotion, and fully charged up, with a retraction of his previous words in place, he's buoyed up and 100% ready to go. In fact, he's typically Nigel again, as we love him. But we have to realise that the bar Nicola sets is almost certainly a bloody high one, and the media, if they care about anything, care about being there if Nicola tells Nigel that his bus stop has arrived.

These leech reporters take these situations and make up an ending. Sometimes they hit the mark. More often than not, they're miles wide of it.

This isn't uncommon at Spurs, they seem to have a surplus of players at times, and good ones, that can't get in the side.

Crouch, Defoe, Kranjar (not sure on spelling) to name a few. Seems a waste of talent not on display not doing the job they want to do. Well, maybe not in every case.

Not sure if it's just stirrers but people suggesting buttner is having a medical.....at fulham? Can't see it myself?

Yes, but previously I've always just put that down to Harry and his love of signing players.

I think Defoe has a bit of an attitude problem which has prevented him from playing more often. I feel sorry for Crouch because he deserved to play for Spurs and he deserved to play for England.

As well as Van der Vaart has done for Spurs, I still don't think it was a smart signing. They've built the team around him, which is something you really shouldn't do. The 4-4-2 they played before worked just fine, and their strikeforce before Van der Vaart and Adebayor was just as good.

Buttner & Butland are not the answer whether we sign them or not.
I fear for us this season. Sign a bit of proven quality (not journey men looking for a big pay day) and be competitive.
We worked hard to get here, i don't want us to be laughed back down again.
