Not match fit, can't really blame him but he was a bit rusty throughout both games. Alot to ask though.
what's a lot to ask? that a bloke who earns £1m pound a month to play football can kick a ball to someones feet who is standing 10 yards away? As to him being Englands best player, on what do you base this? Media hype perhaps?
He is ****. England are always worse with him in the side. He looked knackered after 60minutes. 4 goals without, 1 goal with in this tournament. It's the same story in general with England winning more without him. He is might be talented and great in club football but has always ruined the balance of any england side
Hilarious excuse which has no rational component... Why should a player with so much rest be so tired after running for 120 minutes (he didn't even run for most of that, just walked around)?
You should be match fit if your profession is that of footballer, and you haven't just come back from a serious injury. He's at a major tournament, training every day, how is he not fit?
"Match sharpness" would be a better term, but it's not like someone who has just played 8 months of football should be THAT **** after a month away, is it?
Rooney was terrible, and he's certainly not England's best player. Gerrard got the assists and provided the fractured remnants of the term "momentum" that we exhibited.
It was a decent pen and set us up for an unlikely result. Shouldn't excuse the 120 mins of **** though.

Not sure I'd single him out. Glenn Johnson, Ashley Young, James Milner and Danny Welbeck (apart from the magical footwork for the goal) all disappointed more. Rooney just seemed more of a let down because of the way the media built him up.

Rooney was awful last night, he should have been substituted before half time, same with Young & Milner, why can’t our management team see that?
What is our plan “B”? It’s flat back 9, and lump it up to Carroll, who will flick it somewhere then chase it himself while the rest of the team stand on the edge of our penalty area and watch him.

Anyone that thinks Rooney was ****e last night should never be allowed to comment on football again.
He was nearly always in space, his passing was better than most considering no one else was moving or showing for the ball, and his back heel was a delight.
Still, those things take some sort of intelligence to notice, so it went way over the heads of the morons on here.

I have, on many occasions watching England, screamed in frustration at Rooney. On this occasion, Im not entirely sure what he could have done differently.
Every time he got the ball he was surrounded by Italians. Nobody was moving into space. Nobody was creating openings. The one bit of intricate play england did manage was when rooney created space with an intelligent backheel to Welbeck. From the 30th minute on pretty much every time england got the ball they lumped it forward and basically hoped for the best. If the team is passing and moving its a lot easier for each individual to play pass and move!
Be honest - the only reason hes being criticised is because we all expected too much. Its a team game, and as a team england are simply not good enough at keeping the ball. And the rest of the world knows it.

Ok oh mighty one... Let's bow to your greater knowledge... We were too busy watching his first touch let us down, him dribble backwards and lose the ball, run around looking like he was stuck in treacle and his passing representing a disgusting excuse for a footballer
And the reason he was in space when the rest of the team was plugging holes in the defence? Oh yeah, because, as every pundit has made clear, he was supposed to be tracking Pirlo, but was too busy walking around. Well done Wazza. More like Wazzle!
His back heel was decent, his penalty good, the rest of his game was shocking. But I presume you support Urrr-nited.
If Roy Hodgson says it's impossible not to pick Rooney, it's not unfair to expect more than he offered last night, because on the evidence of the last few games he's not good enough to walk into the team on his name alone.
