If Hodgson hadn't picked Rooney, the media would have completely torn him to pieces. It was bad enough for him not picking Ferdinand, and considering he was slated from the beginning for not being the people's-- er I mean media's choice in Redknapp, so had he not picked Rooney he would have received a shed load of flack.
I think Rooney was ****e!! I may well be an idiot, and I won't mind NOT commenting on him again as what he produced on the night was NOT football, IT WAS ****E! The stats say that Joe Hart was our best passer and nearly all his passes went to Carroll, says it all I think! ILD OTBC
what, is that the weekly wages he'd demand? I'd rather have the players that make the goals, Rooney is the most over-rated player since, well, I can't think of anyone who has been as over-rated as him.
.....i noticed at several throw ins by cole, he had no-one to throw into because they were all marked and just standing still and waiting. no movement to create space.
Pete Doherty you are a clown. Instead of suggesting others not post again I think you should go have a lie down, your brain is overworked, it is on melt down. Rooney is a decent player but far too often we see him look like a complete donkey, with no technique or ball control. No he wasn't the worst player on pitch but thats not what this thread is about, people are commenting on the hype that belongs to Rooney but the reality that he NEVER seems to live up to it or even get close to it. Its easy to look good when everyone around you are good too, but he does not stand out for England, he doesn't get the basics right often enough, he flatters to deceive but he will never get dropped because, worryingly, there is nobody who is better than him for their club. Its a conundrum for Hodgson.
from someone who is called Phil " MESSI " jones. I would expect you to think Jug ears is good , you think Jones is messi. ! Now dont tell me you are being ironic now ....... Only manure fans and John Motson think Rooney is any good.
club football is different to international football u nob. and premier league is different to champions league football
I'm referring to club football you moron. Rooney is not a **** player, you're hugely ******ed if you think so. There are two reasons why Rooney is made out to be ****, and always gets the blame for England's failure. 1. The media hype and expectation 2. The club he plays for. Rooney was no better or worse than the rest of the England team bar Joe Hart and the defence against Italy. Open your friggin eyes. England were **** as a collective, deal with it.

Rooney has let his country down time and time again. I no longer regard him as our best player, Gerrard is, buts that is not really saying much. We are rubbish. Rooney also has zero pace and at international level this gets exposed. The younger, slim Rooney we saw in the early years had pace, he was a bigger threat, he could beat players easily, now Rooney is too bulky and slow. Rooney has been poor at 3 tournaments in a row, he is not world class, just a very good player at club level. His lack of pace is not an issue in the prem. When Rooney got through on goal against Ukraine everyone initially thought It was a clear one on one, but then we saw his complete lack of pace ruin the chance. Players like Shearer made up for a lack of pace with a great footballing brain, Rooney appears to lack that. Rooney also appears to bottle it on the international stage, even his touch is poor.He does well for United, but he gets tons of chances to score and has better players around him, for England he is often poor, the sad thing is he is one of our best players, which is why we won't win anything. He was shockingly bad at the last two tournaments, I don't care about excuses, fitness is irrelevant when attempting a 10 yard pass which he frequently failed to do, his touch was poor, positioning poor, passing poor, finishing poor, hopeless. From reading it thread 2 things are obvious. Rooney played nowhere near his potential and pete doherty is still on drugs.
Rooney is a good player. You don't score as many goals as he has for United by accident. Rooney against Italy was given the duty of keeping Pirlo quiet. That's not his style. If the team's passing and movement were any good, Pirlo would have been busy keeping Rooney quiet. Until we sort out the passing and movement, Rooney will continue to be useless for England.
Only one player in the 'first 11' was worse than Rooney and that was Young. The fact he is meant to be our best player makes his performances even more shocking regardless of hype or who he plays for. Quality P.L player but will never go down as a great. He's just lucky there is no one else to play up front.
