krasic, Elia, Tello a of those two would be fantastic I think. Tello could also be good for Suso if he can make that jump as well.
Just want some pace and trickery on our wings. Also worth thinking that if we get Elia and Krasic we'll be unbeatable on FIFA 13!
Exactly - it's almost as if our players are too predictable. Only Suarez has the ability to create something out of nothing. We need players who have the self belief to try different things.
Two pacey wingers feeding off Gerrard would be a nice change. Happily, the Krasic rumours are really solidifying. The '6m' fee hasn't changed at any stage either. Seems like Luuk De Jong's most likely summer destination is DVB, the German champions keen to sign him to replace the outgoing (probably) Lewandowski.
Valencia are rumoured to be in for Gameiro from PSG. This could free up Soldado... I love the silly season.
we need a striker to replace bellamy as no 1 option off the bench. someone with pace i think, suarez has not got lightening pace and carroll is different so a new fast forward to poach goals would be great. I agree on wingers too.. we need to decide if downing is to stay, what role sterling gets to decide if one or two are needed. I think a CM is desperately required to get shut of adam and allow henderson and shelvey to develop.... for me martinez is the ONLY guy to look at. after that an LB and CB would be good... we need to see carragher off, make sure coates is learning english and settled and let robinson develop. Its a big summer but there are obvious gaps that 30mil won't plug.. its really a question of how many get plugged and with what and what else falls out of our squad...
By 'we', you mean Rodgers... Downing will stay put. We won't be selling a player we bought for £20m after just one season, especially when we'd be lucky to a return get £10m! Although I don't rate Downing, he took his time to settle at his previous clubs too. IMO, we could see a much better player this season
we = lfc we all feel part of lfc. if you say downing to stay, and i agree with all you've said, then there's no way we'll buy two wingers. IMO Striker, winger, midfielder... then centre half, full back, second striker, second midfielder as my priorities. striker = nobody there now, winger = no RW, midfielder = replace adam imo, CB= replace carragher, full back = fill left back slot, second striker = replace bellamy, second midfielder = cover So fill the gaps and replace aged players and utter flops like adam.
But ultimately the decision will be Brendon's... I don't think we will see two wingers arrived, I hope to see one join but I have my doubts considering how long we have been waiting! I agree with the positions you are saying but, like you said in the other thread, we can't fill them all at once. You highlight eight gaps, hopefully we can fill three or four of them and use the young or ageing players we have in the short term. Okay, Carragher and Bellamy are getting on but they are still at the club and willing to stay, we wouldn't get much for them if we sold them so worry about the other areas before these. IMO, priority should be a winger, forward and central midfielder in that order. if we can get one or two others then fantastic but with £30m plus sales, its not going to get much better unless we pick up freebies or players nearing the end of their contracts. To be honest, I am not convinced this is the wayt og o, we have been stung a few times getting freebies and cheapo's
I dont think Rogers will play with wingers. I think we will quite likely see: St - Quick, energetic, younger Bellamy. Cm - Great passer and comfortable on the ball. LB - Compeition for Enrique. CB - Extra cover. Am/F - Like Suarez kind of. Creative, versatile.
true true, i do think the winger is a first team player that you are talking about while the striker i want is either pushing carroll to the bench or to come on for carroll as an option. The CM i want is potentially a first team player too. I'm not sure what rodgers will do with us in terms of formation but i feel that if gerrard is playing a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 is required cos he won't run/can't run. thats why the cm i think needs to be javi martinez. I'd spend 25mil today for him... no question. I do agree the defender slots can be covered by others i nthe squad and we can get by... after all there are players available in the slots. finally why buy two wingers when sterling could be one guy as an option from the bench... it'd be nice to think he could do it in the enxt 6 months. reina johnson skertl agger enrique (kelly and coates as no one subs, carragher as emergency only) Lucas martinez (henderson and shevley to be taught to be proper midfielders) Suarez gerrard X (downing and sterling as sub) Carroll (new forward) That my view anyway, suarez love the right channel he does well form it, he played like that for uraguay and ajax.... hell if mascherano and torres had stayed kenny wuold be in the top 4 right now... lol...
I never really get why people say to sign a back-up for someone. Surely you want that incoming player to be challenging for a first team place? I don't really care if it means Suarez, Enrique or Gerrard has to sit on the bench, that can only be good for Liverpool Football Club, it would give us squad depth AND quality...? Edit: apart from a keeper...
that is a point also. I think there is a a few things in it. 1. back up is a fluid thing. If a player like say defoe scored for fun off the bench while say adebayor wasn't scoring then i guess there'd be called for adebayor to be the back up. 2. younger players like henderson and even carroll need rests mentally and physically and not to be flogged when they don't play well all the time. Either they are coming in and progressing ala welbeck or are replaced by the older guy like bellamy. 3. injuries 4. horses for courses, if you play say city you see a lumbering lescott do you play carroll or a pacey guy to skin him? tactics on the day can dictate who comes in. So my own view here is the winger we'd buy is to replace kuyt and maxi and play first team. If you play 4-3-2-1 then the formation suggests suarez on the right or up top so either downing or carroll go on the bench... are they failures.. no its just backup and a different option to come on and change a game. I think you need to have 4 strikers as players get tired and if bellamy is one of those you can hold off buying two can't you. but i'd call him the 4th striker ideally and bring in someone next year to replace his aged legs. He missed too many chances and played wide last year so i'd want a new option up front... and i guess if that is good enough to shunt carroll to the bench then fine. You are quite right about players just being bought as back up..... examples like degen ,voronin and jovanovic haunted us for years and were just this. Squad fillers are useless but players who are young like say henderson or sturridge or even sterling are what i'd call ideal for the role. Finally "back up for the first team" comes directly from football manager IMO, and FM takes it from somewhere so it does exist at some level in the minds of fans and managers i expect.
I really hope we bring in the CM - our midfield has suffered terribly since Alonso went. It's no coincidence that players like Kuyt and Yossi were playing well with Alonso in the side even though they're not proper wingers. Martinez would be my ideal candidate, or Banega. Also, Joao Moutinho looks a good shout but I'm not sure as to whether or not he is a dedicated holding midfielder ala Alonso, as he seems to get up the pitch quite a bit.
I don't think Downing could have a less productive season than last season. You could argue that some of his attributes would fit a 'tika-taka' game: - High workrate - Competent passer - Can play off both feet But he's not got enough guile, trickery or creativity (as say, Suarez, Sanchez, Villa etc do, who are comfortable in a wide/attacking role).
