I really hope we bring in the CM - our midfield has suffered terribly since Alonso went. It's no coincidence that players like Kuyt and Yossi were playing well with Alonso in the side even though they're not proper wingers.

Martinez would be my ideal candidate, or Banega. Also, Joao Moutinho looks a good shout but I'm not sure as to whether or not he is a dedicated holding midfielder ala Alonso, as he seems to get up the pitch quite a bit.

Moutinho seems talented but lightweight and wasteful. A good player on form probably.

re downing... if kuyt can run about pres shigher up and then just knock it to torres and gerrard then downing can do the same and give it to the others....

i watched everyone in the euros and still nobody looks as ironed on as the next top midfielder as martinez from what we saw in the europa. if he's avaiable i'd spend to get him no question.

30 mil for Moutinho? Then no way.

10 mil for veloso for a player that is pretty similar, a bit stronger, and a wand of a left peg. <ok>

Plus, playing for Genoa, you could argue he'd be easier to persuade.

Much easier. He was right there with Moutinho at Sporting but for some reason ( probably $$$$) decided to go to Genoa. I'd have him in a heartbeat.

I've been looking to veloso but i think portugal have a lot of issues with ronaldo on the left being lazy and merieles too so i can't tell if he's really top drawer unitl they play a better side or two. he looked better at club level.

I have to say the one thing is finding a guy whos not a real madrid wannabe. all of portugal want to be there so its a case of either finding someone like sigurdsson or convincing martinez to sign for 5 years, get the money back in merchandising as a one off extra investment by FSG OR hoping henderson learns how to play that role.

One player I would love to have but Real don't want to let him go is Nuri Sahin, was boss at BVB now just sits the bench and never gets a game for Real, could spend about 15 and get him as well.

gago would be a good shout and was one of Roma's better players on the season. If you want to go younger ( like Lucas) caseimero from Sao paulo is an up and coming CM. <ok>

Stats showed that Meireles was one of our top midfielders in the league (a couple of seasons ago) i.e. covers a lot of ground. I find this really surprising because while he is capable of the odd lung busting run, he just seems quite lethargic and lacks that dynamism.

Also, if we could get Gourcuff firing again that would be a hell of a buy but injuries and some shady form for more than likely a high price would be a bit much I think. :/

I'd absolutely love us to get the three Brazilian youngsters - Caseimero, Lucas (not ours) and Neymar - but that would cost an absolute fortune and at least two of them have theirs eyes on bigger things such as Champions League football <ok>

Not sure if there is still a non-EU ruling though...? Maximum of three non-EU players in the match day squad...?

Edit: and no, it is not just because they have flash names or because they're Brazilian either...

It's their personalities right?;)

Laudrup has admitted defeat and said that Sigurdsson will and should be joining Liverpool...<ok>

I'm actually quite gutted that Diame went to West Ham. Felt that he would've been a low cost improvement to the squad

Anyone else think that the Czech's Pilar as looked quite good in this tournament...? Anyone know anything about him...? Who does he play for...? Has he been good at club level...? Etc...

Edit: I now know he plays for Wolfsburg...<ok>
