We had a number of young players whose contracts ran out at the end of last season. We have heard who of the more senior players have been released but what about the younger ones. I believe that East, Peet, Oxley, Mainwaring, Emerton, Bradley and Hoolohan were all coming to the end of their contracts have they been released or been offered new deals? Of those mentioned I would be disappointed if Bradley and Oxley were released. It is also the time of year when juniors are either offered deals or released does anybody know who we have taken on?
I'd expect Bradley to be retained, he was in and around the first team at the end of last season albeit forced through injuries. Oxley will definitely be released as his back is a liability, it'll probably prevent him having any sort of football career which is a great shame.
I'd say its pretty much certain Bradley is kept on. Holohan has been released. Emertons impressive so hopefully we're holding onto him and he gets a chance next season. East is an interesting one, he didn't really take his chances when he got first team football last season, but he's still young so i hope we give him this season to prove himself. From what I saw of Mainwaring he was pretty decent, but no idea whether he's well thought of or not.
East needs to go out on loan, he looked out of his depth last season, he needs a bit of lower league regular football to boost his confidence(as Townsend did last season). Holohan looked the next big thing at one point, but had a really poor season last season, I'm not surprised he's been released. I've no idea what Emerton has to do to get a game, he's been great for the reserves, he's looked good in pre-seasons with the first team, but he never seems to get a look in.
I wonder if Dawson gets released will Townsend be a backup to Dudgeon or do you think he'll go out on loan again and we'll bring a more experienced player in (if Daws goes)? Also amazed nobody has poached Max Clark off us yet.
He's 16 and there's plenty of clubs sniffing round him already, we'll have a job keeping hold of him.
Just about ^^^ sums up my thoughts. Bradley and Cooper have massive futures as far as i am concerned. Both are local lads which is also good for the club. One of them could become James Chesters replacement IF he ever does leave us. imo.
Why will we ? If he is that good we give the same answer as we do to bids for Chester, Stewart etc etc. IMO, FIFA should bring in a rule where no player under 18 can be poached-signed whatever. Fed up of the way kids are handled and not just in this country. Far too many are exploited for starters. IMO, we should loan out Townsend to a league club now. Maybe York City is a good choice and not far away. We can offer Grimsby both East and Clark on season long loans. Also offer Mark Cullan to Grimsby in exchange for Liam Hearn. Lets start working with our local clubs for a change. Hearn scored more goals than Vardy and he has just moved to Lesta for £1m+. If Hearn dioes not cut it then we send him back on loan. Win win for all parties. Danny East did not do to badly in the Macclesfield game overall and was doing ok in the Crawley game until he got booked early-ish. Then he just looked very nervous.
I thought you were only open to poaching until your 17th? If so it's only 6 months, although I suppose if he can be poached at any moment, regardless of transfer windows, that's a long time.
grimsby - local!!!! york are local, as are garforth, ponte, wakey and others. grimsby is in an alien part of the country.
I've never had the pleasure of watching any of the juniors, but from the last year all I have heard from the forums is that Max Clark is the next big thing and that Emerton should be getting a game soon, but alas never has. Perhaps SB will give him a look in.
Hope Emerton gets a contract/chance to impress. Mainwarring is the interesting one, we still know nothing about his signing.
Lol. Local as in as the crow flies. But Grimsby was good for Townsend last season and imo would be perfect for East and Clark. Especially Danny East.
Mainwaring is an interesting one, released by mutual consent, then signed by us, then loaned back to the club that had just released him. He's no youth player though, he's older than half our first team.
Dont panic Capt, Dont Panic. Seriously though, I would give him a go in pre-season. Sh.it or bust for the lad under Bruce, imo.
