New definition added to the dictionary today: Patriotism (n.) - The belief that Glen Whelan can outperform Modric, Iniesta and Pirlo in the space of a week.
I find it a bit annoying that so many people are moaning about Carragher's voice. Would you rather sit and listen to a load of southerners and Northern Irish people dominating TV like the other 99% of the time? Those two accents are the only ones I don't like just because you hear them so much on telly, other ones I don't mind at all. Also Ireland aren't very good but they aren't as dire to watch as Greece!
Ireland are gonna be the first team mathematically knocked out. Spain have looked classy tonight. England tomorrow, gotta beat those pesky swedes!
****ing come on! Got a bit brave just before kick off and chucked a wedge at Spain -3, about back to evens now, England win tomorrow night and I'll have made profit from the £145 loss I've made altogether so far.
Pretty much that the Irish players should stop ar*e lick the support and opposition 24/7, instead think about what they need to improve.
The studio, and Keith Andrews in a post-match interview, were crowing about the Irish support being so good. Andrews said Spain were quality and they were chasing shadows. Chiles asked Keane what he thought "So err, so err, so err, Roy, what do you err, you err, you think about, about it then?" And Keane goes; "I'm not interested in a lot of that rubbish. A lot of the Irish players seem to think they're superstars and they're not, tonight proved it. I'm not interested in hearing about the great supporters, I want to see us stop conceding soft goals and making basic errors. I don't want us to be a team turning up for the jolly, I know we're a small country up against it, but we need a reality check" Words to that effect in any case, and elaborated on. He was right, all this "Ooh the Irish fans" and Keane was like "err, what?". Brilliant. Didn't crack his face, deadly serious, just said it like it is. With numerous "listens" thrown in. I enjoyed.
And, unless you have an umbrella handy, you'll get drenched in phlegm. Keane's living in cloud cuckoo land. They've over achieved just getting to the tournament with the likes of St Ledger, Whelan & Andrews playing for them. Whelan, for example, was cack for Sheff Wednesday back in league 1. How on earth does he cut it in the premeir league? Their better players will have finished their international careers now- Keane, Given etc and they don't have a convayor belt of talent like Spain, France, Germany, Netherlands have because football isn't their number one sport in that country.
I'm not entirely sure why Whelan plays when they have Darron Gibson sat on the bench. Also I don't want to sound picky but I'm not convinced France really have a conveyor belt of talent either, not like the other countries you mentioned anyway.
