Anyone else feel that Pacheco and Lansbury should be our number one (and two) transfer targets this summer? Based on their second half performances last night I think we should attempt to bring both in. Their link up play was delightful and they slotted straight in as though they'd never been away. And Huckerby... Hucker, Hucker, Huckerby... the boy has still got it! Anyone think a cameo role in our 25 man squad would be a good thing? <laugh> Ok, maybe not, but he proved that he's still got pace and class even though he's been retired for a few years to be a standout player. Celtic didn't know how to stop him! A quick word for Mickey Nelson too, who although not having much to do, proved that he is still a good centre back.

Both class acts. Can't see us getting Lansbury (who had a great half albeit against a poor Celtic side) - a little bit out of our wage range I imagine but maybe Pacheco could happen. Huckerby is still class and if his legs held out could do a job for somebody.

I'd imagine Pacheco would jump at the chance to come. Seems to love the club and is still friends with many of the players. Would happily take him or Lansbury both very good players. But top of the list is Hucks, still quality would rip prem defences apart. ;)

I thought Pacheco looked like he would link up with Howson really well.

Hucks isn't exactly out of shape, but I doubt he's been keeping himself match-fit since he retired. Get him training with the squad pre-season, get him to full fitness, and I bet we could still squeeze a half out of him as an impact player. As a role model for the likes of Pilks and Bennett, he might be worth having around the squad (even in a non-playing capacity) and I bet he could teach them a few things!

I'd love to see Dani 'Simeon Jackson' Pacheco signed up, and I wouldn't say no to Henri 'Andrew Crofts' Lansbury either. My god the commentator last night was annoying.

would lansbury really be out of our league (in terms of the wages)?

if he's not going to feature at arsenal yet, then he should go out on loan again, to a premier league team next season. he's done what 2-3 years in the second tier. West Ham didn't seem to start him regularly either, probably down to their style of football.

I tell you what I was sitting in the N & P on the left where Lansbury and Pacheco were linking up the most and it has been a while since I have seen that amount of quality touches whilst inside and around the box.

Please I hope we sign them.

I think we need to be realistic about Huckerby. Even the ravages of time can't take class away but 15 minutes of a friendly against Celtic reserves/youth does not make a Premier League season and be worth a spot among the 25.
Pacheco and Lansbury yes. They are just the type who do something out of the ordinary that can change a game. And I think they genuinely have affection for the club which is a good foundation. I don't know the reasons they weren't with us last season but can only assume it was their parent clubs.

I think the Pacheco reason was because Athletico Madrid agreed a transfer fee if they wanted to sign him at the end of the season. That hasn't worked out but I think at the time that's a decent deal for Liverpool. Maybe we were not prepared to do that because it takes up one of out loan places and we had just signed Vaughan, Morison etc.

I don't know about Lansbury though, baring in mind he went to Championship team, maybe we were not interested? But played pretty well yesterdaay from the stream I watched (apart from the haircut)

purely going by memory here, lansbury wanted to stay at arsenal to force his way into their first team. as we all know, that didn't work out and he ended up signing on loan at west ham. i think he probably realises now that it isn't going to happen for him at arsneal and his willingness to play for us last night may be a good sign. same applies to pacheco - yellowlittle above has underlined why we couldn't sign him last summer. its all change now and i think both would be outstanding acquisitions <ok>

If we get them, QPR are going to be offering us their pity as they snap up Emile Heskey and Michael Owen!

Didn't Lansbury sign a new deal at Arsenal last summer? If so, presumably, even if we were after him last year, Arsenal didn't want to sell. From his point of view, who wouldn't have wanted to grab another shot at making the Arsenal team.

That, though, is last year, and as supers said, it's not looking likely he'll break into Arsenals first team regularly. We could well be a very attractive destination.

As for Pacheco, I think, given half a chance, he'd walk here to join.

Isn't David James looking for a new club too? I wonder if Sol Campbell can be tempted out of retirement...

Let's not get carried away people, it was only a friendly against a bunch of kids to be fair.
My jury is still out as far as Pacheco goes I'm afraid, yes I'd love him to be a star as he seems a top, top fella with the right attitude, but us all wanting him to be brilliant doesn't necessarily mean he will.

Steve Morison scored ten goals for us in the toughest league in the world yet is somehow a villain to some fans whilst Pacheco showed a few decent touches in a handful of games for us, has a cool name and is already a hero - probably to those same people. He didn't score a single goal while out on loan in Spain last year either, I'm personally not quite sure what all the fuss is about. If these two are our #1 and #2 transfer targets this summer then I'll be slightly worried to be honest.

i've seen enough of pacheco to know that there is potentially a really top drawer footballer there. if he doesn't reach his potential then he'd be more than good enough for us and a useful player if nothing else. he has a terrific touch and great awareness and i can't imagine he'd cost the earth either - we know he fits in well around here... honestly, its a no-brainer if he's available, which i'm sure he is. with magic in his feet, could be a young hoolahan

Given Ayala joined the club on Pacheco's recommendation he clearly thinks highly of it.
When he was here some of the players were saying on twitter he's incredibly talented and we saw that both in the season and last night.
Personally I'm not so sure on Lansbury, a good player and that goal against Millwall had me smiling for days but Im not sure he'd force his way into our midfield straight away and might be frustrated with a lack of first team action. Would be a great addition to the squad though.
