If he does exist why does he not just prove it? What's he hiding?

Well the ad infinitum (+tedious) religious apologists would say that it denies man choice - or from God: 'without faith, I am nothing', the guy with the 7 year old who religionists attempted to indoctrinate, or the guy who says he was taught about a God who would really **** him up if he strayed from the path etc - it strikes me that they are not offered choices by those who seek to convince and brainwash them at an early age.

Man is gullible and superstitious - there is a great deal of evidence for this. Some mentioned the God Delusion earlier in this debate. I love his illustration of the mysterious gods in Vanuatu who bring 'cargo' which just goes to show how a fearful and impressionable group of people can so easily create and hang onto their superstitions by dint of mutual group corroboration that perpetuates myth.

I'm getting a bit bored of the evidence debate, which has become a bit too circular tbh. There is no evidence of Santa Clause, but that does not mean he does not exist (and the because we cannot prove he doesn't, doesn't mean he does etc)

Back to stereo's evidence debate. If there was such great mysteries on earth such as that of a loving God, then wouldn't there would be evidence of all sorts of miraculous and paranormal activities everywhere.

Why do you not believe in God Mr Russell?
Bertrand: "no evidence".

Tell me this all you who are defending Religion and the proof that Jesus existed - will the 80% of people on Earth who are not Christians go to hell?

yes they will ..they'll burn for all eternity <ok>

p.s. Father jack says its lovely and warm outside girls so no need for yer sweaters today

What if God was one of us
Just a slob like one of us
Just a stranger on the bus
Trying to make his way home

If God had a face what would it look like
And would you want to see
If seeing meant that you would have to believe
In things like heaven and in jesus and the saints and all the prophets

Answer it then Rebelbhoy.

If I don't believe in God, will I go to hell?

Teach me <ok>

Its not teaching though. its my opinion. For whatever the hell that is worth.

In my opinion you'll be ok. biblical teaching is pretty broad on it.

you have to be one of the 144 000 from each of the 12 tribes of Israel.
You cannot be a rich man?
some translations have it that you have to convert to believing in Christ. Others that you just have to repent your sins.

The first one is the kicker though. I am the 4th nicest person in my house. I don't think I'd qualify in the top 144 000 of all time....And I am not even israeli.

My thoughts on it are that if you are fundamentally a good person, you'll probably make the cut.

Don't you understand, this is the exact reason why it's so amazing that he's so well known! Nothing was produced about him whilst he was alive, yet he is still the most famous person ever to have lived!

Source? Evidence? Didn't think so...

a) Why would there be any contemporary accounts of Jesus?

People couldn't write. It was left to smart folk to do that. Who do the stories say that Jesus ministered to? The smart people, or the dumb people? So who would have written about him contemporaneously?......Thats right. Nobody. People wrote about him afterwards because he became quite the cause celebre. Even if there were contemporary notes made about Jesus, it would be unlikely they would have survived the Romans smashing the joint up in 70 AD.

2) Why are you ignoring the many many accounts written shortly after his death as evidence of his existence? This is the strongest evidence of his existence. Why would anyone write about him? Is it more or less likely that the basis of Christianity is around a real guy? That people might have said.....hang on a minute. I don't remember any of this. Josephus was a respected historian. Are you saying his sources are flawed? What about Tacitus? his history frame the politics of the time, in much the same way that the gospels do. Or that there are no contemporary writings about Jesus is evidence of him not existing. Despite it being highly unlikely that there would be any in the first place? ...make sense?.

Because you agreed that there was someone claiming to be Jesus. If they weren't why would they claim to be. Bearing in mind, this is the kid of a chippy from Nazareth. That ain't gonna score you much pussy in J-Town is it? You agree with me. I know you do. You know you do....just let it go.

Because "smart people" would have known he was full of ****...

I read a book the other day. It was about a guy who had to do a series of really weird and crazy things in order to secure the release of his daughter by terrorists. Are you going to try and claim that this actually happened too? Using your logic, nobody would have written it down had it not happened, despite the author admitting it sits in the same library section as the bible should, the one marked "Fiction".

Can you prove his sources are not flawed?

Anyone claiming god exists never makes any sense, as the existence of any god goes against all reasonable logic and proven science.

You have repeated this a few times, "a carpenters son". Doesn't the phrase "immaculate conception" imply that the carpenter never actually stuck his cock in Mary? So how could he be a carpenters son? I thought he was the son of god? Why doesn't any of this make sense? Is it because too many people made up too much, and none of it goes together very well?

"Of course it is debatable weather Jesus ever existed at all", and simply moved on. This is untrue

If one man doubts it, it is debatable. I'm not fully convinced he did, so that makes YOUR statement untrue, not Dawkins.

I never claimed anything.

I did say that quite a number of times didn't I. You don't believe he is the son of God, therefore he is the son of a carpenter according to what is written about him. Is that correct?

Would you describe the holocaust as debatable?

Because "smart people" would have known he was full of ****...

Given the Jewish population of the region at the time, you are essentially saying there were no clever people at all......which if true, that this region was populated by dummies, then surely furthering the argument that there were no contemporary sources for the life of Jesus is ...well.....Dumb.

answer my questions ****s .. please thank you come again

What if God was one of us?
- He was, vile sinner, he was a human as frail as you or I, and he died a human death that you might live. He wasn't a slob because sloth is a deadly sin, and he wasn't on a bus, because he had decided not to let mankind invent them until about 2000 years later. God does have a face and it looks much like Jim Whatshisface from the Passion of the Christ (fortunately for the accuracy of that film). <ok>

I will say it again:

I don't want to start any blasphemous rumours but I think that God has a sick sense of humour, and when I die, I expect to find him laughing...
