Title says it all really! What if Modric goes on strike or Bales performance drops due to not playing the level of football he deserves being champions League? I know both are under contract but contract arent worth the paper they are written on in this day and age. Come on Mr levy lets pull a major signing out of the bag to show the intent of fighting for top 3-4 again.
None of the players will be going on strike, far too much over reaction happening. We may lose one star player but that can happen to any club, even man utd when they are winning the league. Overall I expect us to have a stronger squad next season.
Modric - no. His head has been turned and this season wasn't spectacular for him. Not bad, just not amazing. Therefore it might not be seen as such a blow to lose him Bale - I think he'll stay. Loves going back to Wales and i think the only club in England that could afford him is City.
21/05/12 - Daily Mirror - Leandro Damiao Seems we have been after this bloke for 2 years or so good choice but wouldnt it be massive if we also bought Adebayor and Kept Defoe.
If we managed to get him, then we'd have a striker set for the next 7-8 years potentially. The guy is a great talent, but lets not get carried away. We've all heard it before
Can we? Yes. Will we? Hopefully. I see Modric as the most likely to leave and I don't think any of us can claim to know where we stand with him, I don't think Bale will be forcing a move so I'm sure Levy won't entertain offers for him.
I don't expect Modric to be here next season and I would feel the same if we had made the CL. Bale I think will stay for at least another year.
Echo whats already been said really.... Modric I think played with the thoughts of just getting the season over, I hate saying it as I love the guy but i think he is gone. Bale I obviously stays loyal but could we really turn down a serious offer of £40m for talk sake??
Yes, if Modric goes for that kind of money. Wouldn't do us any good selling both, regardless of the funds we'd get, as I doubt we'd be able to use them effectively enough to sufficiently replace the lost talent
With his age, contract length, ability and potential i would turn down £40m in a heartbeat. We turned that down for Modders, why not Bale? £60m though? Hmmm. It sends out completely the wrong message, which you can't really put a price on, but it is a LOT of money if it could be used to strengthen (big "if" having just proved you are a selling club with no ambition)
Contract lengths of both players mean we still have the "power" to decide so to speak. They can't force us to sell and quite frankly, even if they want out, tough sh*t. They have a choice - sulk and sit on the bench for the next 3 or 4 years or knuckle down and help get us CL football next year to satisfy everyones wants. Levy won't be threatened by them, he showed Modric last year so why the rumours of him saying "I'll decide on my future after the Euro's" have surfaced I have no idea as he hasn't a choice in the matter. P*sses me off when players (not just Spurs ones) feel they have the divine right to choose if they wanna leave a couple of years into a 4/5 year deal.
I can't see either staying, to be honest. Sell both to City and let them have the title for the foreseeable future!
The trouble with selling a first team player is replacing them. It's all very well having £ in the bank, but its useless if it weakens the team... in fact if it weakens the team too much you could end up losing as much money as you were paid for the player. There are few players that will add to our team if we were without Modric and Bale, even fewer that would come to us. It just sends out the wrong message and weakens us in so many ways.
So for arguments sake IF we sell Modric and get the £40 Million who could we attract to replace him realistically? Do you think Levy would release the funds to buy one major signing (Llorente, Falcao, Damiao type players) or do you think Arry would prefer 2-3 Quality players
Harry clearly wants multiple players. He said as much last year when he was contradicting Levy about whether Modders should be allowed to leave
I agree with most of what has been said. Modric was always going to leave this summer imho. Bale will stay, I don't think Levy will sell him even if he asks to go.
Now there is an idea - I wouldn't mind them sending a couple of players our way either. A good relationship with man city could be useful
If the stories we are hearing about Vertonghen and Ade are true, then it may just go towards convincing them of the club's intent. Particularly, if we can also add another top striker. If it's all about money, then we'll lose out, as usual!
does anyone else think that Levy might have had a long hard think on sunday about a few things? Firstly how disappointed the fans must be feeling. secondly, the potential impact, and finally doing something about it pronto and initiating plan B? If it's true, and levy is over in amsterdam today sorting out vertonghen, and he's already got talks underway with Ade, fairplay to him. we can't ask for much more than that in 48 hours. That's the only "bouncing back" we can do right now,and if it's true, it therefore highlights the intent of our chairman.
