    was just about to say Jaas. - but he's 37. we've got to be thinking long term. But again, I wouldn't mind Robbo or Green. Think their both good goalkeepers. and realistic targets too.

    The days of hoping for players like Hazard are now over, but Adam Johnson is a perfect target. he's unhappy at Man city, all it needs is someone to just tell him that he needs to forget about super wages and get back to doing what he does best. - playing footy. I think he's the sort of guy who would take a wage cut in seconds, for the opportunity to be playing again. Not going to the euro's is bound to have made him do some serious thinking.

    which is exactly where "Uncle harry" comes in...

    Absolutely. Modric and Berba didn't come to a CL team. And we didn't have CL money.

    On Jaas's age:

    To be devil's advocate, why do we have to think long term? Why not sign someone who's only got another three years left? And after three years sign another proven, experienced Prem goalie whose contract is out and keep going like that? No transfer fees, no big wages, fairly risk-free.

    If you work for a company where people are constantly leaving you do start to look around a bit more for other things. We should try and build a stable squad with a good atmosphere so players WANT to stay.
    What if Bale becomes best mates with Jaas and then Jaas retires? Suddenly there is less reason for him to stay. But if Bale becomes best mates with "New Young Keeper" then both Bale and NYK have an extra reason to stay.

    Hello folks, new around here so go easy!! ha ha

    In regards to Bale, people move on in football and I think there would be far more important factors than Bale having his friend around. I see no reason why bringing a keeper in for 3 years wouldnt be a good idea.

    No doubt missing out on the CL will have an impact but as people have said there are players who are very highly rated who im sure would love to come to WHL......hopefully Vertonghen is the first!!

    Welcome.
    Yes, there are more important things than having mates around and a bloody good team spirit. Two of them are the Champions League and MASSIVE wages. Alas, we are in no position to offer either of those to players like Bale. So we have to excel in other areas in order to keep and attract players. I think the team spirit is probably ok, otherwise Adebayor wouldn't want to come back. I don't think we should jeopardise that by starting a rotating old fogey door every window.
    Things we have got going for us:
    * Atmosphere at WHL
    * Style of play

    Thanks....
    What I mean if Bale enjoys being at WHL and is settled and happy then he may not want to jeopardise that. However listening to him speak about the rumours from Spain he didnt convince me he wouldnt move. I think he will move on in the summer, both him and Luka. Sad times but what can you do?

    What comments are you referring to? I heard him say something along the lines of "i'd have to consider Real or Barca if it arose" but that means little as far as i'm concerned. Barca don't want Bale, he totally wouldn't fit in there. He's more a Real player, but they already have a half decent left winger.
    It wouldn't surprise me if the context of his words were twisted by the journos. I've not actually seen the interview or whatever it was.

    Or was there something else?

    Sorry for not knowing everything about every football player. Not sure the facepalm was really required. Bad day at school?

    He probably only knows him because he's good on Football Manager or Fifa or something.

    apparently he's a midfielder. according to Wiki, he doesn't score many.

    Not another defensive midfielder? surely?

    Great memories. Too much crap to do nowadays for me unfortunately. I think CM7 ruined my exams, Danny Murphy and Neil Lennon were WORLD CLASS. They don't always get it right.

    Three years on his contract, and he plays in an area that doesn't need strengthening - even taking into account Harry's habit of signing West African players, I can't see why we'd entertain thoughts of bringing him in given he's valued at £10m, which we need to spend elsewhere.
