It still seems like a big mess. Did the Allams really have a clue what they were getting themselves into when the sacked Nick. We know they want value for money and want to run the club on sound business principles which is fine but what will they be offering the new manager in terms of pay and money to spend. With the way Nick was sacked as well I think it will be which ever person is really desparate for the job and going on that I would say Brown. Mixed feelings really, I like to remember the good times but the bad times were really bad, however he might have learnt some lessons now. Nightmare scenario is that they all turn the job down.

Kevin Blackwell isn't a Has Been!!! He's a never was! And never will be I suspect.
 
The major problem I had with PB was his inability to manage the players properly. How many were on the 'naughty step' for whatever reason. Barmby seemed to be the opposite & didn't drop players when he should have.
Also for those commenting on Clark having no experience, just remember that neither did Barmby, who was ever to say that a player who has played for the managers & clubs that he has would make it as a manager. Mark Hatley anyone & the other extreme, Alex ferguson!:shocked:
 
Alternatively, candidates may think that Nick was reportedly sacked for saying things in the media that undermined the owners. If I don't do that I'm far less likely to be sacked

We'll make this a gentlemans bet Chazz, I'm pretty confident given we have never finished higher than 8th more than a few times in our entire history and given what has happened the last few weeks, the squad won't be settled and the new man won't match what we had in Pearson and then Barmby. Unfortunately being disabled I won't be able to come round to collect the winnings anyway and have no heavies to back me up. Betting against my own team makes me feel a bit sick anyway.

I don't like either of them Ben, regardless of their records. I'd take Brownie back even though he went into melt-down for the last year or so. At least he has history with us. I find it tough to imagine getting behind the likes of Davies and Mccarthy and my opinion is they wouldn't improve the squad we have as much as Nicky could have. If the Allams give them millions to play with they might buy their way to the top eight but not with the players we have.
 
going back to the Ash reactions, am I practically the only person who understands his "lack" of reaction; FFS he's just lost a game, he's upset with himself & he would blame himself as a character like him takes on the responsibility. the last thing on his mind would be smiling and waving at the ex-fans. some of you don't get the psychology of the moment.

Ashbee remains a hero.
 
That list looks grim. important thing for me is not to go for someone who is trying to revive his managerial career such as PB or Blackwell. As we probably can't attract someone who is currently successful such as OGS, I'd like to go for someone under the radar. someone young who won't cost so much but potentially could be the next big thing. it's always a punt (like burnley's manager) but id rather we get that if we can't get experience and know-how with the likes of Billy Davies or MM.

if the players liked nicky who was most likely down to earth and humble guy tey will hate the contrast PB offers with his ginormous ego and nonsense. So please don't mention it, lightning doesn't usually strike twice in the same spot

I think it's a case of; We'd all have prefered Barmby to be manager still, but now we're just going to have to accept someone else is going to be manager and try look for the positives, whatever they may be.

For example, Kevin Blackwell fills us all with disappointment because he's unfashionable and boring.... but, in 3 managerial positions, he's taken 2 of those teams to the play-offs.

not that I want him here, though! Far from it, but if he gets the job, at least that something to cling on to.

Clark would be an OK appointment, and he has a great backroom staff with loads of experience. I wouldn't read too much into what Hudds Town fans think, I know quite a few and they're quite fickle. My dad's mate is from Hudds and he was singing Clark's praises for ages - best thing since sliced bread and all that, then once he got sacked and Grayson came in, he was all "Clark was rubbish anyway, Grayson's the man! he'll get em up!"

Greg Abbott - has City connections, and has taken quite a few Man Utd youth teamers on loan at Carlisle, some of which we have here. Maybe to do with Warren Joyce, as they were at the club together for a season or two.

Phil Brown - well, it depends if he's learnt any lessons from his first stint at the club. If he can come back as the more humble, down to earth bloke that came in as a caretaker, then we'd be getting a good manager back. If the rumours are true that he'd bring Horton, Ashbee and Deano with him too, that'd be great for the club, as they'd instill some passion about the club into the players.

Megson.... not even I can put a positive spin on that!

If we're referring to his gesture to the East Stand everyone round me was laughing about it and taking it as part of the banter (him having had a bit of stick about his weight). I was quite surprised to find people slagging him off for it afterwards.

It's only that big a mess because people are choosing to see it that way though. I think if people calm themselves down about the fact Barmby has gone and that with little information they don't agree with it it's nowhere near as bad as is being made out.

The bigger names that are out of work and prepared to manage in the Championship will at least speak to the club, and I've no doubt they'll be informed (in more detail) that Barmby was sacked for repeatedly suggesting he wasn't given money to spend in January when he was offered players that would have cost a lot rather than because he asked for money to spend in the summer. That'll appease most of them.

Player wise, Garcia isn't happy about it - well no ****, Barmby wanted him to have a new contract and now he's got to wait to see if the new manager wants to give him one. I'd not be all that happy either if my job was suddenly on the line.

McLean's comment on Twitter the other night was that it's a big deal when a manager changes, and everyone seems to have taken it as him saying it's a bad thing. But hang on, we were expecting him to be offloaded because Barmby didn't rate him. If he's expecting to leave and suddenly there's a new manager going to be in place of course it's going to be a big deal, it's a chance of a fresh start at the club for him.

Kilbane according to the HDM is unsettled by Barmby leaving because it leaves his future up in the air, but when you read the article it says a key factor is if he's offered the chance of extending his playing career by a season then he'd find it a tough decision to make to take a coaching contract here. That's nothing to do with Barmby.

The rest of the players at the club seem to be too busy looking forward to going on holiday (Cooper), coming back from holiday and getting back into condition for international qualifiers (Cairney), or on arranging nights out round town (Evans and some of the younger players).

Have you noticed we've heard nothing from Koren's agent since the initial request for information, and that Rosenior who said that if it was true Barmby had been sacked for asking for money in the summer it was ridiculous hasn't had his agent say anything since the players were informed of what was going on?

I don't think anything's changed for Garcia, I don't Nick had any intention of trying to keep him.

I like a number of people, don't really believe in pi55ing in the same river twice, but when you review the realistic alternatives, Brownie alongside Nobby is surely the best option, IF the above is true.

I'd go with that. As someone said further up, he is only unpopular for his PL record and by that reckoning Davies is **** as well. If we want a good Championship manager (in terms of record) then PB is as good as Davies.

No offence to Aaron but a chance for a fresh start for him isn't really a great prospect for most fans. I don't agree with this idea that 'its not so bad' that I've seen mentioned from a few hard-nosed fans, for me it is bad because Nicky would have brought that squad of players on, was a local lad and loyal to us for the last 8 years, not to mention his experience of football. Now we are going to get somebody shipped in and are supposed to expect better things? No way Jose so for me it is bad and not something to be just brushed under the carpet.

That's not right according to Wiki.

His win % for Derby was 15.15. For Preston (in the NPC and L1) it was 29.41, and for us (NPC & EPL combined) was 33.12. That is far below BD's record
 
I wouldn't exactly be delighted if Brown got the job, but if he does get the job then i'll back him none the less and hope he can repeat his success of 2008.

Agree with you TC. Ash loves the club, would be daft to say otherwise but he's hardly gonna appeal to the supporters of his new club if he's gonna be waving to the opposing fans after they've lost a game. He was a Preston player that day, not a city player and thus you would expect him to behave like a Preston player.
 
would not be surprised to see Nigel Worthington on the shortlist or even given the job. i know a lot of fans have preconcieved idea of him, but he could do a good job for us in my opinion.
 
How can anyone put Barmby above McCarthy or Davies and say that Barmby would have done better. How can you say that? What evidence do you have to back that up? Two of those three are proven quality managers at this level. I would haver prefered NB to still be in charge, but he isn't. Yet we may have a chance to appoint one of two managers who have far better records than Nick, and who would both be great option.

Then you criticize the likes of Lee Clark and Greg Abbott when both are identical Barmby bar the fact there not born in Hull! Both have achieved more as managers than Barmby, both are highly rated by many people in the game as good coaches, which is vital for a team that are on a tight budget. I think we all agree we would love Barmby to be our manager, but just because he's not doesn't mean we should just say every other manager is **** and that you don't like them. Look at things from a neutral point of view rather than some stupid loyalty.

On Browny i remember the great times, however them great times where brought about by stupid spending. If Barmby had the money Brown had in the Championship we would be in the Premier League. Then in the PL he was brilliant yet for some unknownreason he changed, his tactics went awry, his man management was poor and his signings. Bar one and a half seasons he has done nothing in management. But i would love him back for his personality. So i am very split on him.

Also OLM is Mark Robins being considered or is that just a name you've thrown in? Good option to if its true, hope it is, anything you can tell us?
