Any of you guys know any reliable sources as to how close vertonghen is to joining you guys. As an arsenal fan i would be gutted if he joins you. I know this may be a pretty strong statement but i would much rather you guys get hazard than vertonghen! I know vdv reckons the deal is close but other than that i'm getting info from the guardian and goal.com that hes very close to joining you whilst other suggest the club clinching cl football will seal the deal.

....yes, I do, and you're asking us to plaster them all over the internet. <doh>....you stick to goal.com though...top notch! you won't go far wrong with them! :D

haha no man im not asking you to disclose who your sources are just wondering if you're close to signing him. I mentioned goal.com and guardian in the context that they are far from reliable....ok they're worthless! A simple yes or no would suffice.

I don't think anybody here know any more than that. In today's Daily Fail, Vertonghen admits that "there's something going on with Spurs" but also says " there are other clubs interested" what's to say. We won't get Hazard because money seems to be his main motivation. Vertonghen seems more interested in guaranteed football, from what he's saying.

thanks mate. I only mentioned hazard as a means of stressing how much i would like vertonghen at arsenal though i think hazard seems destined for man city. Guess we'll have to wait and see about vertonghen.

You seen much of him then? I was just about to express my concern that he wasn't picked in the 32 man preliminary Dutch squad before realising he's Belgian, which I think tells you how much I know about him <laugh>

not much tbh just a couple of matches in the europa league. More than anything i really like his attacking style and can cover left back, defensive midfield and center back efficiently. Haven't seen mvila at all though but judging from highlights seems to lack adventure.

YV, what i've seen of him, he's been solid. and yes, completely agree about the early signings!!! hopefully harry's "spurs need to be bold" comment, will ensure we get a couple of others very soon.

CB, its probably the best decision for Vertonghen in all honesty. We're likely to see Gallas, King and Nelsen all move on/retire/be released etc etc at the end of the season. thats leaves us with Dawson, Kaboul and Caulker. Not enough, considering we could be playing some sort of European football next season. Caulker still has a lot to learn, so we need to strengthen.

I know a lot of you guys don't think too highly or Squillaci or Djourou, but even if you take those two out of the equation, you've still got Kosielny, Vermaelen and Mertesacker. gotta see where Vertonghen's head might be at. :)

    http://www.telegraaf.nl/telesport/voetbal/ajax/12080710/__Vertonghen_wil_medewerking_Ajax__.html

It's in Dutch, but a quick translate gives Jan Vertonghen (25) assumes that he has played last game for Ajax. "Tottenham is definitely my preference," says the Telesport Footballer of the Year . The Belgians say they hope his employer in the coming days will prepare something more cooperative.

I assume that" more cooperative" is a Flemish euphemism for " more money"?

I think we wants his employer(Ajax) to demand less money for him to move.

yeah the reports are ridiculous, but amongst those, some are true and the rest are stirring up the bullshit.

For vertonghen to say that a "talks are happening", and rafa to say that he thought the "deal is being done", should indicate that there's some truth in that. if it was bullshit, you'd never get the actual player saying it, or one of our own players who it's got nothing to do with.

perhaps the Man U reports (havent seen any of those if I'm honest) are just made up? as well as the "favourite club" comments.

From what i've gathered so far, Spurs and arsenal have only ever shown the real intent to purchase, and as it stands, it looks like spurs are winning.

I can't see Man Utd making an offer, that would entail Fergie admitting that Jones, Smalling and Evans aren't up to scratch which I can't see him doing...

As has been said the competition seems to be between Spurs and Arsenal, I have a feeling that it may come down to who finishes highest and secures Champions League earliest.

Jim White has just read out the comments from Vertonghen on SSN. It appears he's making a shout out to Spurs and Ajax to get the deal sorted asap.

It would appear that he's already made his decision. - but that could change as of sunday. Levy, get it sorted this week please!!!! <laugh>
