did we cock up Cahill in jan too? Or did we cock that one up fully last summer?
We really should have stumped up the cash for him last summer. Missed out there. We might have ground out a few more points over the season with added defensive cover.

To be fair I think Cahill wanted crazy wages which is why Chelsea got him. Was after something like £80k-£100k a week according to various media outlets. He's a good defender but not in the bracket to be paying well over the odds for.

Chelsea had the deal sewn up when the window opened - Owen Coyle said so when asked why he was rested for the FA Cup, as he'd be cup-tied (which presumably would've knocked a few quid off what Chelsea were going to pay for him)

I'd say we were right not to pay over the odds in the summer - Bolton were asking for £20m in the summer, yet in January he went for £7m - but we seem to have forgotten about him between the windows, possibly because we switched attention to Vertonghen...and then ballsed up a January move for him anyway.

so far it doesn't look like we ballsed up on Ruiz. We were linked with him weren't we? Mind you, we are linked with everyone.
He's hardly set the world alight so far, couple of decent goals, thats about it.

He would've been back-up to VDV at best - so spending £10m on him would've been perverse logic.

£6m? I hesitate to believe anything in our media, but are we really pissing about over an extra million or so?
Wouldn't bloody surprise me, to be honest.

If (and that's a big if) he is set on joining, that's no excuse not to budge - meet them somewhere in the middle, since £6.75m still sounds like a steal.

Considering what we have paid in the past for players, 1Mill is nothing. Levy dont be a dick and just sign him.
