Right, and I'm saying that the risk is higher in some transfers than others.

Only if they have previous injury trouble or bad mentalities. Any player with no impacting conditions will have roughly the same amount of risk as it is impossible to judge how well a player will settle.

For example, a player like Owen Hargreaves would be a very high risk transfer, due to his injury problems.

But a player like Billy Sharp, with no consistent injury trouble, and a player like Tadanari Lee, with no consistent injury trouble, settled at different rates, and the Japanese international settled far quicker and produced top-notch performances far faster than Billy Sharp. I assume you would have predicted Billy to be a transfer with far less risk, however it didn't work like that.

What I'm saying is, you cannot say a player is high risk simply due to where he has played, or is playing, or his nationality. It isn't predictable and isn't consistent.

We bought in just the four players last summer and I agree with RLGB that it will likely be a similar number. Evoloution not Revoloution. We Evolve we don't Revolve.

I think we will bring in about 6 or so, not all to go straight into the first team, but to strengthen the squad as a whole. Looking back over the last few years for promoted teams most seem to bring in between 7-10, don't see why we should be any different.

Adkins and Fonte have already both said that they expect a few additions but thy HAVE to fit in with the teams visions.

That means no big time charlies, no excessive spending.

No one player is bigger than a team.

They know how good morale is at the club and it would be foolish to disrupt it!

Morale only goes so far, son. As it stands, we will get torn down the flanks, and annihilated by shots from outside the box.

I think (and hope) this might be because Tadanari Lee is a much better player than Billy Sharp, and when Lee has really settled in, he'll be twice the player Sharp is! Time will tell.

Sharp had the fact his son died and was buried. So it was a massive move for him to leave where his son was laid to rest. That's why he started of a little slow. Sharp and Lee are totally different players.

The general feeling I got with Sharp was a sense of relief that he started to get things together, because for a while there I thought we'd signed a player who couldn't fit into our style of play. In fact, he didn't quite, and Saints adapted them selves slightly to make him fit. With Tadanari, it's a different matter. I'm actually quite excited with what lil' Chung brings to the team. He's fast, works his socks off, quite clearly knows where the goal is, and just as importantly, he's entirely different to Sharp, which makes the attack really versatile. When he returns next season he'll be like a new signing. Incidentally, I suppose other people noticed him hopping about in the celebration videos, with that special boot on his bad foot..?

Don't know if anyone's mentioned but we're supposedly interested in Lolo from Osasuna for £1.5 million. Defensive midfielder who can just as comfortably play CB. If Football Manager is anything to go by (which it is) his stats look very strong, a real all round player, technical, mental and physical attributes all around 15.

i would class our 3 midfielders as defensive. we need a goal scoring attack minded midfielder

In todays Daily Express they are reporting we are indeed going for Matt Jarvis....i for one would welcome this signing.

Championship and League 1 players

Out of the top performers in the Championship and League 1 this season, who would you like to see join the Southampton r/evolution?

Hungry players with perhaps a point or two to prove, players that will have the right mentality and not think they are bigger then the rest of the squad and will not demand stupid wages. It has been a successful ploy for promoted teams to handpick the best performers particularly from the Championship in recent seasons. Would you like us to follow suit and pick up some of the top performers from the Championship and League one this season? If so, who?

(Side note: I see on Sky Sports they are linking Newcastle with Butterfield of Barnsley, a player that we have been linked to over the last year)

That's tactical too. We give ourselves numerical disadvantages out wide and in the middle. It's definately something we'll look to address.
