Newcastle have had a bit of luck as well as great performances, just what you need when getting a good run together. I remember hearing a report from their match against Bolton a few weeks ago, I think it was sometime into the second half and the reporter was saying he could only see one winner, Bolton. At the end I was a bit surprised to find Newcastle had won 2-0! But fair play to them, I'd much rather them (and us) took 3rd and 4th than the established order, if nothing else but to stick a finger up at Sky and say, 'where's your sky four now!'
I said a fair chance, not a prediction! All there games are tough and any one could be lost. IF we start winning games, we could still get 4th (or even 3rd) although Lord knows I am not confident now.
I wish I had your confidence, HD! on paper our games look easy, but the reality is that they are dam tough! even if we were on fire right now, we'd still find these very difficult. Lenny - I know what you mean about commolli, and i thought that when i wrote it, but do you honestly think BMJ had nothing to do with those signings?
Well who really knows? Certainly that was how it was said to work. Fans, however, seemed to decide that all the signings they liked were "Jol signings" and all the Gilbertos, Bents etc were "typical Comolli signings".
haha very true! I just don't get how a manager wouldn't have anything to do with the signings. If i was the manager, I would not be able to accept that some other bloke would be choosing the players for me!
Hence no doubt the arguments at board meetings and Levy at that time supporting Comolli rather than Jol who had not been a first choice manager anyway. It's quite possible that in hindsight Levy would have got rid of Comolli and gone with Jol, but then hindsights easy.
I've always been happy to stick by Harry because how well we've done since he's come in yet played great football too. It's been hard for us to get to this point and fighting for CL for 3 season running is great for us because of the lack of success for so long. Thing is, I've grown bored of Harry excusses and tactics this year (or should I say the last 10 games of the past 2 seasons) and his comment about 'squad depth' because we had a few injuries was the last straw. How can a manager who runs down the whole team so they can't finish a season because he does rotate players complain about squad depth. How can he complain when he's had a chance to bring in players to help us thorugh to the end in Jan but says the squad is fine. The squad was fine because we were playing well, not because we didn't need extra cover. Don't get me wrong, I think Harry's done great but I do start to worry when the same old issues happen over and over and he just does not see it. Bale is best on left wing so why is he on the right or middle? I'm waiting for Defoe to be in Goal at some point. I just know when I see a team if I feel we'll get something. QPR I didn't expect to win with that formation and poitions. I really believed we were going to have the best season in the premiership after the Newcastle game. More fool me I say.
The only player that can be called a Jol signing with any certainty is Dimitar Berbatov, as he had to plead with both Comolli and Levy to bring him in.
Defoe in goal ? Nahh. (not fully fit).........Lennon in goal ? Nahhh. (Struggling to get fit)........ Surely its Modric's turn to be gaolie. Isn't it.
I haven't read through the thread, but to be honest, right from the beginning, Harry was always going to use the Spurs job as a stepping stone for a bigger opportunity.
