I just wish I could lock myself up in a cupboard for the duration of the Olympics. Oooh look at him, he can run faster than him ! Oooh look at her, she can throw that bloody spear further than her ! What a load of bollocks, who f**king gives a sh*t !!!!
It's like the fecking jubilee.100% effort by the media to convince us we are interested when we know 95% of the population are not.Speaking for myself these cliff hanger ends to the football season are the apothesis of excitement.I am far more exercised by,for example,Plymouth Argyle's survival than a royal wedding or whether a pop star is gay or not.Journo's should stick to what they do best.In the case of that muppet Murdoch's finest phone tapping.
Of course not, there has to be places reserved for a load of pensioners from Manchester, Beckham, Giggs, Scholes etc. IT'S A ****ING JOKE! ILD OTBC
I love running, long distance particularly and I do it because I enjoy it. I like watching many athletic events and competitions. But the Olympics has become a farce and a pay day for the rich sports men and women. 12 billion so that Seb Bad Loser Coe can go to his grave having run the Olympics. The London Marathon takes place Sunday and I wish I was doing it but missed out on the ballot. But did you know that charities now want £2500 quid fund raising of you to enter. London Marathon takes £300 of this to put in its bank which has cash assets of £41 million. PAula Radcliffe was given £750,000 to run the London Marathon and her flights and hotel paid for. They had to pay her flights as she lives in Monte Carlo! But she couldn't run for GB in the World Championships because she had to run in the NY Marathon. Fairdues she has a living to make but don't then expect a free Olympics. PAy and entry fee like every other poor sap did to run Sundays marathon. And all the drug cheats who were given a paltry 2 year ban for cheating makes my blood boil. Ban them for ever. And Beckham can come and live in this country and have English neighbours instead of Tom Cruise if he wants to play. Tosser!
the only reason beckham will go is out of loyalty for his part in helping us get the games...oldenballs will wish he hadn't bothered because he will be remembered for this...should've given up gracefully...sad really...
Er, am I the only one who is actually really looking forward to the Olympics? The bit I'm not looking forward to is travelling to work every day as my journey takles me through Stratford which is clearly going to be an absolute bloody nightmare!!
Well the last word says it all really.Personally. But you should feel honoured. My Maths recons that there are about 2 million people in Britain who are interested. At a cost of £10billion then the rest of us have paid five grand a piece for your two weeks entertainment. You could have had two weks at a seven star hotel in Dubai....Oh wait a minute, maybe the Olympics aren't so bad after all
I "WAS", being a athletics fan/supporter, until the fiasco over the tickets, what an out and out shambles, half the country getting up at 5:30 in the morning to log onto a system monopolised by Barclaycard to try to buy tickets which only rich people could afford, then for NO reason at all having your card rejected even though it had been registered previously, which somehow worked again later, after the tickets I wanted had all gone. In the meantime the system crashed. Now miraculously they've found some more tickets, AND they're letting the drug cheat Chambers back in. It's a con it's a shambles it's a total **** up!! I have however got tickets for the Paralympics to watch a friend of mine running. The Paralympics seem to have maintained some semblance of the original ethic. ILD OTBC
I'm sure I've paid more towards it out of my council tax than you, or most of the people on our board, have and it doesn't bother me in the slightest. Far more of my taxes have been wasted on illegal wars that I'm sure some people on here still believe to be justified. Anyway I'm really not sure where your figure of 5k per person apiece comes from - sounds a load of nonsense propaganda to me I'm afraid along with your 2million people being interested in it - based on what exactly? And you conveniently choose not to mention of the boost to our economy millions of tourists flocking to our shores will bring. Shock, horror. But that's not the issue for me personally, the money aspect simply doesn't come into it. I've seen the regeneration of the East End of London with my own eyes and being in London every day has made me appreciate the positive effect it's going to have on hundreds of thousands of youngsters who are embracing the games and finding new role models. But I guess with anything you're always going to have the nimby brigade trying to spoil other people's fun. Ah well, just stay at home and switch your telly off if you're not interested, or maybe just go on holiday somewhere. We'll sure have a good old hoot come the summer and despite the tube travel chaos I mentioned earlier I for one can't wait
Sadly it seems the Olympics is becoming less and less about the sport. It has always been used to raise political issues however it has now just become a marketing tool and a place to be seen for the rich and famous. Some sports maintain the Olympic spirit, however how can you have a player such as Beckham earning £200,000 a week in the games? That is certainly not what the Olympics should be about.
I don't know how you work that one out.My council tax bill is over two grand. On top of that I pay 20% of my business profits in VAT.
Mine is over two grand as well so I guess so I guess we both pay way more than the average person on here - but you don't live in London so yours won't be going towards the games. And what has VAT got to do with it??
