Back to the OP,and how Arsenal 1 Wigan 2 affects it.Well first of all the odds on Wigan for the drop have lemgthened to 6/1.As they were odds on for the drop eight days ago that is a pretty spectacular turnaround by Martinez.Two tricky fixtures,although by comparson with the last two a stroll in the park.I expect them to take 7 points.

Blackburn:The toughest to predict.Chelsea.who will have either won or lost the cup on the last day,playing Wigan when they may be safe,Spurs and Us.6 points.

Bolton: 6 Games in three weeks.Apart from Villa five of them have nothing to play for.Would expect two wins,two draws,two defeats.8 points from 6.

The Villa: Only peripherally involved but last night's result at The Emirates drops them right in it.Some tricky fixtures. Fellow strugglers Bolton,a West Midlands derby with The Baggies and us away on the last day,a match that will now surely figure in the battle.6 points from 5.

QPRcelona: The toughest fixtures by a country mile.The last game at The Etihad that Man City may be desperate to win too would be my bet of the season not to finish with 22 players on the pitch. (Maybe 18 or 19) It is possible that Rangers may have already joined Wolves by then but I wouldn't let that hold you back from a flutter on the wildest game of the season! 4 points

Wolves: Already gone IMO Un point.

My final table:

15 Villa 41

16 Wigan 41

17 Bolton 37

18 QPR 35

19 Blackburn 34

20 Wolves 24
 
Nice anaysis CT. After last night's result, and as long as Bolton don't blow their 2 game advantage, I would agree with you on the final table. It's a bit of a tense time for Villa fans, but I think they will survive.
 
The powers that be have somehow conspired yet again to produce a down-to-the-wire finish to the season.It could well be a repeat of last year with teams still having a chance of saving themselves at kick off on the final day.Of course the title may well still be live too,although I think City will have to win the Manchester derby if that is going to be the case.

Agreed. The relegation battle is always exciting, even better when you're not involved! (of being relegated that is. Obviously we could have a say in who goes down)
 
I've just thought of another possible eventuality, unlikely, but possible. If a team goes into liquidation, particularly a team that we got six points from, such as Bolton or QPR, we could potentially be dragged back into it as we would lose the points gained from beating the team twice.

NOW I think all bases are covered.

That's one I didn't want to think of. Hopefully unlikely, but what would the time scale be on that scenario. If it happened when the season is over, would that affect us?

I don't think so. There was all this discussion when Southampton were close on going into liquidation. From what I remember, had they gone into liquidation after the last game of the season it would not have affected the table.
 
i'm pleased wigan look like they are going to stay up. would be nice if bolton stayed up too for muamba. personally feel its two from three now as wolves are dead <ok>

on the liquidation front, i think they'd just have two relegation spots and filter the removal of said club down the league tiers. as redruth says, you can't relegate a team for another clubs failings! didn't leeds try to go into administration a minute before being relegated from the championship? they succeeded and lost 10 points, only to see they were doubly punished the following season for trying to cheat <laugh>
 
If the team disappeared from existence then I believe any points gained from that team is then taken away though?

I'm glad they've changed the rule on points deductions after a team goes into administration to avoid incidents such as what Supers has described.

i think we'd still be ok - even if qpr, bolton or swansea went out of business tomorrow, thats the maximum 6 points deducted from us but we'd still be above water. i tell you what, i bet it happens sooner rather than later to a club in the premier league, where they just disappear overnight. could have happened with pompey two years ago - there will be others i'm sure...
