The club and us supporter may rue the chance that has been missed this season. Promotion chances to the Premier League or its fore bearers dont come easy. I can count only 4. This one which is one we dont look like we are going to take. The successful one that came out of the blue. And one I was reminded of today, that was when Terry Neil was the manager, finished 6th, failed to take our chances at home after being the better team by yards each match. 1971 I believe. And before that 66/67 season our first in the 2nd division in the heyday of Waggy and Chilton. We missed that one as well after looking promising. Lets see that 4 times in 46 years. One chance every twelve years. And like the stock market the highs are usually followed by some pretty awful lows and indeed they were--locking of the gates at Boothferry and nearly booted out of the leagues all together. And like this recession it was an incredibly slow rise back up. Regardless of the lows things always like the stock market revert to the mean. So another 4 chances in the next 46 years. Lets see promotion in say 2058. Hope I am wrong and hope our next chance is not going to be for another 20 years I probably will not be around. Still for you that will be internet speeds should be at Warp Factor 1 by then even Tiger Player will be faster.

i cant remember the last time i felt like this about a home game, but im struggling to find the enthusiasm to go...
i can support **** players and **** city teams no problem, had enough practice over the years, im just so angry at the complete lack of passion and fight shown in losing the last few games...
every one has been a must win game at the time, and each time weve come out and barely tested there keeper, weve just let it slip away with a whimper and played them like friendlies, thats what im angry about, not losing.

Im still looking forward to the game. Thinking back to the Coventry game. no one even sang at the beginning, my feeling was the players needed to show they really cared/were bothered and get us all back on side. They didnt.

I bought train & match tickets for West Ham over a month ago when we still looked like we could be in with a shout. Looks likely we'll have nowt to play for down in cockneyland, and they might just be mercilessly battering our goal, if they're still in with a shout of the automatic spots. Still the piss up will be a change of scenery.
I can see where people are pissed off by our lack of urgency and lack of spirit at the moment, but i'm in hope things can change. But i doubt it. Still i've seen worse.
The one thing i don't see the need for is slating Barmby. Prehistoric Bob's ****e posts on here are getting tedious. Especially when most were raving about him being one of our own before Christmas. It's two faced ****s in football i hate the most, and they'll be slating the next manager if NB decides to call it a day or is sacked and the results don't pick up.
Barmby's been left in a difficult situation since December and inheriting the crap that Pearson brought in he's doen well. I dunno what the money situation is like and i don't want to speculate. Although, i have a feeling this is what stopped us buying anyone in January. Not Barmby himself.
i feel barmby has to take a bit of the blame, his refusal to try different systems etc, and his obsession with possession etc, hasnt helped in the chasing games imo....im all for developing a team playing that way, and hopefully it will get it right so we play it in the dangerous areas, but at times in this league youve got to go direct and get it in the mixer and get bodies in there, etc, especially in the last ten minutes when you havent had a shot all half, passing along the back 4 is infuriating...
i also feel a bit sorry for him as well tho, i think hes been let down by a few players like stewart, who he has kept faith with and been has been given little back in return, always said cant judge him until next season with his own players playing his system, just dont think i can take another 90 minutes of possession in our own half..
We all support or moan in our own way mate. Bob and DJ are some of the few who went to Pompey, thats why they are so p1ssed off. Most of Bob's other posts have been in jest.
Of course if a new manager came in and did crap we would criticise him, thats life. Just because we have been in the bottom division doesnt mean we should be prepared to go back there.
We were promised money to spend by Mr allam, it didnt happen, surely its reasonable to question that?
Look at some of the loans and permanents other teams made in January and March and look at what we did? Surely its reasonable to question that?
Blackpool have way more firepower than us yet still signed a player in March- look what Dobbie has done, fired them into the playoffs.
Would Reading be where they are now without Jason Roberts signing in January? Or the fukin 400 grand they paid for a Le Fondre, a player on our doorstep?
The problem would seem to be that the team have mentally wound down and are thinking of summer holidays.

We need to play it on the ground but get men forward with pace, power and urgency. And i agree we don't do this enough. Whether it's players, like you said, who have gone off the boil (not naming names) or they think sod the last 5 matches it's me holdiays already. Who knows?
I think Barmby's tactics are correct, afterall he's played for Liverpool, Everton and Spurs and for England. His formations might need working on, but you can't fault him for the way City have passed the ball about this season. If you keep possession you give the opposiiton the run around. You need to able to keep the ball in championship as there's still decent players who can hurt you. I'm sure Koren would have been up for the last few matches if he'd been fit. But that's the way it goes.
NB is stubborn but that's nothing new with managers and he's got to play with what he's got. He is afterall, new to this management lark.
I'd keep him on and see what he can do in the summer. We'll miss Shakespeare's and Walsh's scouting talents, but he might have some things up his sleeve.
Thank god it doesn't work like that. The margins between success and failure are very small and it won't take much to be in contention again. 07/08 was so totally unexpected.
The 65/66, 66/67 team was the one that gave us a chance at a long term presence at the top table (think what Coventry did from those years for the next 30 or so). We had momemtum, we had the crowds, we had investment but something went wrong. I think the management, and the club, lacked the conviction (or maybe the money) to complete the job that had been started.
