Each and every club has a minority of fans that become very abusive when the manager reveals himself to be lacking the competence to perform at the required standard. Steve Bruce via his media interviews, appears to be attempting to paint a picture that suggests the abuse he recieved from the fans of Sunderland was worse than that of any other failing/sacked manager has recieved at any other club. It's quite obvious that Bruce feels embittered by his sacking at Sunderland and his continued attempts to remind the media of 'poor old me, I got shouted at by Sunderland fans' is really quite embarrassing on his behalf.
Surely Bruce isn't so stupid to realise that the more interviews that he provides which are geared toward reminding everybody that the abuse he recieved from a minority of fans is serving nothing other than to fan the flames and therefore we can only ask one question. Why does Bruce continue to mention being shouted at by a minority of fans? Clearly Bruce has his personal motivations... I think Bruce needs to drop the subject, move on and take up a job with a championship club that will appreciate his 'experience'.
Perhaps it would serve Steve Bruce quite well to take a look at Steve Kean at Blackburn as an example where the abuse is/was clearly much more organised and far worse than what Bruce experienced at Sunderland. I can guarantee the day Steve Kean is sacked at Blackburn (and the day will come eventually) Kean won't be whining to the media every other fortnight about the abuse that he recieved. Infact, its part and parcel of being a premier league manager these days.
The influence of money and the perpetual analysis of football in general, whether that be refereeing decisions, players wages and fee's, diving and cheating players like Cabaye and Tiote, team selections and tactics of managers etc etc is now creating far more pressure than ever before and it takes a strong man to adjust/handle the modern day environment. I would suggest that because it was only a minority of fans that shouted at Bruce proves that Bruce is blowing the issue completely out of proportion. As Cestria highlights, the fans didn't shout at him when he arrived at the club, they only shouted at him when the club was sliding toward relegation and those fans would have shouted at any other manager given the same circumstances.
I certainly don't hate Steve Bruce because the only person that is damaged by hatred is the person who holds that hatred within themselves. Ethnicity, sexuality, religion, birthplace etc wouldn't make any difference to me as it's the ability to produce results and inspire the fans that is what is important and Steve Bruce failed on both accounts. That is why Ellis Short took the decision to relieve him of his responsibilities at Sunderland.
I hope Steve Bruce can find himself another job in football however I suspect he needs to drop back to the championship and prove himself at a lower level before he can expect another call from a big club. If Bruce isn't capable of handling the pressure of managing a club the size of Sunderland and won't accept a job at a lower level of football due to the size of his inflated ego then perhaps he ought to find himself a job in a factory earning the minimum wage.
