We are starting to approach that time again, when we start getting linked to all sorts of players as we approach the summer transfer window. Most of the stories are probably not true but instead of creating threads on each story, we could just talk about every player we get linked with on one thread. Discussing it's merit and talking about if the player is good enough or not. If we start getting seriously linked with one player, then obviously that player deserves his own thread. But for all the others, this thread can be used instead. I will start with the latest players that have been linked with us in the last few days.

How highly do you rate these three and do you think they would make us better?

My view

1. Dempsey: He is 29 years old but he is settled in the league and would probably not have to move from his current location, so would need less settling time. He can also play in different positions. He has played on the wings, the lone forward or off the main CF. At the right price, I think he could be a good purchase.

2. Sessegnon: 27 years old and can play on the wings or in the middle, probably in the Fabregas/Rosicky role for us. Quick and very skillful and like Dempsey he is settled in the league. But, PSG have also been linked with him and we can't win in a bidding war with them.

3. Giroud. He is a very tall CF who I can only see playing in the Van Persie role for us. If RVP does indeed sign a new contract then this guy could go the same way as Chamakh. We will probably not change the system to fit him in so he is not worth it, especially at the transfer fees quoted for him.

Dempsey, excellent utility player. Reminds me very much of Llungberg with his timely runs into the box and cool finishing.

Sessegnon, no way! Gervinho is better than him so why do we need this guy? He scored one good goal for Sunderland and suddenly everyone's acting like he's the next big thing.

Giroud, not needed. Podolski can play in the middle if RVP gets injured. To fill Podolski's left position we got Gervinho and Chamberlain. If we get Podolski then getting Giroud would be a huge waste of money, and a huge detriment to the current players in the team.

Adel Taarabat anyone? I thought he was brilliant against us. Really Skillful and very strong. He's definitely got the technical ability to be an Arsenal player.

adel taarabt has had severe diciplinary problems and strikes me as a bad egg. He's also terribly inconsistent and was until recently benched at qpr. We can do much better for the sum of money qpr will probably be willing to sell him to us.

Wenger spoke about him after the QPR match, saying that he just needs consistency now. Make you wonder if he's got one eye on him . . . ?

taarabt is good, and wenger could make him great, but only if he put the effort in, and i don't see him doing that. he would want the team based around him, except he isn't good enough for that to happen at a club like arsenal, and would flounder.

Why talk about Taarabt and Sessegnon when a much better player to buy would be Hatem Ben Arfa? He's got a long contract, but he may want to leave if a Champions League team comes knocking.

Hit it on the head. Ben Arfa at one point was being compared to the likes of Benzema and Nasri talent wise. You can see he is class after coming back from a serious injury and performing so well. I think we were interested in him at one point but went for Nasri, maybe we can go for him. I think he's better than Taarabt and Sess....

Another better player would be Swansea's on loan sensation Gylfi Sigurdsson. He fits our style of play, is a quality central attacking midfielder, can obviously score a lot of goals, and would be much cheaper than Goetze ~ 10 mil.

Lucas Biglia. Argentinean defensive midfielder from Anderlecht.

Might be the back up option if we fail to get M'Villa. According to the source, Liverpool are also after him.

Yep, this.

Watched him when he was at Reading and kept any eye on him at Hoffenheim. He was voted their fans' player of the season. He's been exceptional for Swansea and I think he would definitely be worth a punt - excellent player and we could get him for a bargain.
And I just saw he's only 22, we should get this guy. Was expecting a much older player for the kind of technique and composure he shows.
