I will make a Hornets Nest XVIII for the BBC later today. It will be a little less in detail than HNXVII but I have to keep something there untill the very last breathe.

I miss my teenager Norway - he became 20 and went to Uni - now it is phone support

 

I have two teenagers, both of whom are nicknamed Sergeant Schultze - he of "I know nothing" fame (cant for the life of me remember the name of the tv show!). I do like, but am slightly worried by, giving control of my PC to a phone support expert & watching the screen as they zoom around fixing whatever problem there may be.

 

I agree that more often than not it is the slow cars that cause the problems - yes I know they are not the ones that have accidents - but they cause the frustration that lead to accidents.

Along a stretch of largely rural road near us - an "A" road there are a few small villages- baiscally a few houses and such on either side of the road. Till about 3 weeks ago the speed limit along most of the road was 50 or 60 with the "centre" at 40. They have now made whole stretches 30 for a mile or more at a time where you drive along a good road with fields on either side, good visiblity but still 30. The few cars that now stick to 30 (me at the moment included) end up with a crocodile behind them - a couple of days ago the car behind me pulled out and overtook me as soon as he could and glared at me. I could not really blame him as I would previously have been doing 50 on that bit. However he was angry and frustrated and probably would go on to take silly risks as a result - does that contribute to road safety?

... and while I am on my speed rant - it annoys me that I have been driving for 40 years, driving for companies doing up to 25,000 miles per year and never once got a speeding fine till I moved to Wales - then I got done for doing 68 on a motorway (there were signs restricting that bit to 50 but no road works or lane closures at all so I just missed it) and now this one. Wales - perhaps like Norway - see it as a revenue source

 

South wales is well known for dodgy speed cops!!!
Norways speed radar teams had an article in the paper saying they didnt hide!
Someone sent in a photo of a copper in a wheelie bin pointing a radar gun up the road!!!!!

I got done for speeding in Wales a few years back.... telling my Canadian uncle about the cameras everywhere... I missed one...

Leeds is very bad with have arterial roads going into the city centre with cameras every 400 yards. I got done in Leeds too doing 37 in a 30....

Madness.. you end up looking for cameras all the time.

No sense to it either ( rant coming)..... put cameras in real danger spots yes..... and be clear about them.. then we all slow down etc.... but put them all over the place and the whole road safety argument then is a nonsense.

I must say I like the french way.... there are very few and they are all clealry indicated before you get to them with the speed limit etc.... and you slow down..

Yes I always found the French very practical on roads - they have few traffic police but if you have an accident and are at fault they come down on you heavily
