Chris, have I touched a nerve?

anyone can find the Not606 member called Roker Report and see the pages of links you have posted to the your commercial money making site.

Are you thick or what? I said a link to jet2, not a link with, my apologies i should have said "hyperlink", are you a pedant?

When you started off I mentioned that you were going a bit heavy with the link to your website I suspected would become a commercial interest, possibly off the back of a university degree?

You haven't, I just don't like myths being perpetuated.

For the THIRD time, we don't make money out of it - aside from a tiny sum, as I've stated. Everyone who writes for the site is fully invested in either jobs or university degrees (myself being engaged with the later) - we thus use up a hell of a lot of our spare time solely to bring content to fellow SAFC fans.

It is in no way a "commercial interest," nor will it ever be. I'm sure we'd leap at the chance (who wouldn't?), but the fact is there really isn't a massive demand - relatively speaking - for a site like ours. At least not enough to make it a viable moneymaker. Anyway though, that isn't the reason we do it, it's a labour of love if you will.

The sponsors you see on the page are linked to SBNation, the overarching site that hosts our blog - it's them who make all the money here, not us.

In fact Chris, you have 17 pages of forum posts under the profile of Roker Report and I bet the vast majority are links to your fledgling site, you are to be commended on you endeavour and I'm sure it is only a matter of time before you turn a good profit out of it.

However, it wouldn't have been allowed on many message boards and I suspect well you know it.

It causes me no discomfort at all to say I like your site Chris and I wish you every success.

Perhaps a link to the not606 message board would be in order........................................

You can have a free pop at me, I'm off out for the night.

Ok, I will accept your not doing it for profit - I posted before your last response - however it is a good site and it has potential to be profitable.

I'll apologize for having a go - I have my reasons - however you have had the good grace to explain the situation.

If RokerReport had posted the link your argument may have held water.

As the link was supplied by a respected poster on here, in Teesidemakem I have no problem with it.
Glad Tees posted it as it was a good read.
When Roker Report first started, I suggested to RokerReport that if he was going to post a link to his site, that he add more information in his post, so readers could decide if they wanted to go elsewhere to read the full article.
As after all this is a football forum not a link site.
Which he happily did at the time.

I think you will find every link posted here goes to "sponsored" sites!
How do you expect them to cover hosting costs?

MR -thank, comments noted - I'm not arguing with you.

Chris, in a nutshell family member nearly went under due to someone cloning their website and posting links at every opportunity to the clone website, effectively depriving him of work and even worse providing shoddy services to clients who thought they were dealing with him.

Links have their place - e.g on a links page or a banner as I said previously - many message boards would regard constant posting of links as spam activity - not606 do not, their look out - they have already been identified as an attack site previously, I suspect due to links being posted to dodgy websites under the guise of links to watch games on their pc.

Hello all, this really needs clearing up so let me do so. I'm Simon, I started Roker Report, and indeed are the person who has this account. Chris is a writer for the site, and has absolutely nothing to do with the promotion of the site, sorry to disappoint.

I did indeed come in heavy posting links here and elsewhere when the site first started nearly 18 months ago, who wouldn't want to get their name out there to like-minded fans? I certainly did, and I think for a while it worked. However I was also aware that I didn't really want to take the p*ss when doing so, so it was suggested to me by a Moderator here that I prefix posts with [Roker Report] and did so. Therefore people knew what the post was about, and could take it or leave it.

Eventually, I stopped doing that, but we did and have always had a respect for how Not606 helped in those early days, and have had a link to Not606 on our site. You may have noticed though it eventually stopped some time ago.

I also did things on the site which featured Not606, such as sending kits to Kenya. See here - http://www.rokerreport.com/2011/6/5/2203265/sunderland-fans-help-kit-out-african-football-team and here - http://www.rokerreport.com/2011/3/15/2047879/red-whites-unite-for-africa

As for commercial gain... My word, I wish there was a commercial gain. Whether the ads on the site are from Bob's Builders of Rhyope or Adidas, we get the same very small amount (Less than £50pcm between 6 of us if you want the breakdown), in return we have things paid for such as a rather expensive Getty Images license, bandwidth, domain names etc.

Roker Report is written by fans, for fans, for the love. And always will be.

Hopefully this clears things up somewhat.

Simon Walsh, Founder & Lead Editor of Roker Report.

Thanks for clarifying Simon it does indeed clear it up, I applaud you ingenuity in using not606 to get going - even though it eventually got right on my bloody nerves - and that what led to my original comment - and a fair ration of ale on the back of a victory.

I should have made it more tongue in cheek - hope Chris and yourself will accept my sincere apologies.

I can add that myself and Simon spoke a lot about the shirts to Africa appeal, and he was a pleasure to deal with, and to his word put a full article on Roker Report, including back links.

    I don't see a problem personally.

Fair enough pal, like I say I wasn't really that riled by it - just didn't really want things getting said that weren't true!

But glad it's all cleared up now, hopefully we can keep providing stuff of interest.
