....,, talk ****e radio.

Apparently we were in for ibrahimovic before we bought laslandes. Wasn't made clear of why it didn't go through.

Also mentioned we had deal agreed for Robbie Keane but he wouldn't come.

Finally, he said he disagreed with bob Murray re the stadium extension and the money to do it came directly out of our transfer kitty.

Interesting stuff

yeh i remember robbie keanit was on the back page of sunday sun he signed for 7 mill but then he refused us dont know about the other<bubbly>

I remember Keane was a player we were constantly linked with under Reid.

Didn't realise we were that close to signing him

Supporters can get up close to one half of Sunderland's legendary G Force when Eric Gates visits the Black Cats Bar this weekend.

Ahead of every game at the Stadium of Light, a special guest takes to the Black Cats Bar for a pre-match talk-in.

On Saturday former striker Eric Gates is set to take to the hot seat.

Gates joined Sunderland from Ipswich Town in the summer of 1985, during his spell at Roker Park he made over 200 appearances for the club and is best remembered for his strike partnership with Marco Gabbiadini.

The pair took the Third Division by storm, scoring 42 goals between them as Sunderland clinched promotion in the 1987-88 season.

His final goal for Sunderland came in the 1990 play-off semi-final victory over Newcastle United. Following his own strike he then set up his Gabbiadini and Sunderland secured a 2-0 win.

Gates will be in the Black Cats Bar from 1.30pm on Saturday.

The talk-ins are part of Black Cats Bar matchdays, where fans can enjoy a complimentary home-cooked meal, free matchday programme and take advantage of drinks offers.

To book tickets or for more information call 0871 911 1500.

...........................................................

Sounds canny, maybe some truthful tales told..................

I've seen gates before at a sportmans dinner for Brandon united, he was good crack.

Had an interesting story about the playoff defeat in 1990. He claimed the players didn't know but Dennis smith did that Sunderland were going up due to swindons problems before the game kicked off.

Think Murray woudn't cough up the 7 mil quoted for 17 year old Ibramohivic.

Before Gatesy signed he stopped on the bridge to ask a fella walking his dog (not syd) how to get to roker park. Apparently the guy said "keep practising son, keep practising".
Gatesy said he knew then he was going to sign prior to anything being discussed.

I think it was even less than that marra, £1.4million or something ridiculous like that.

Ouch.

RVP and Ibra up front?

**** me....

That makes it even worse then lol. Reid also turned Benito Carbone down for 4m, but he cant even be mentioned in the same sentence as these two!

2 other big transfer regrets that I know of for other clubs is Wenger turned Yaya Toure down when he arrived for a trial with Kolo, and Fergie rejected Zidane for 1m, saying he was too lightweight!
